(Jim Brown photo) OPVG, OFPA offer $2,000 bursaries The Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers (OPVG) and the Ontario Food Processors Association (OFPA) are continuing with a bursary fund to support and encourage individuals pursuing a career in any aspect of the processing vegetable industry. These organizations are working together to ensure that there are new individuals who will have the interest, skills and abilities to further develop and grow this sector of Ontario’s agri-food economy. Through generous sponsor donations they were successful in raising just over $12,000 at this year’s auction. An additional amount in excess of $4,000 was donated in memory of Jim Whitson, former chairman of the conference committee for the past three years and vice-chairman of the OPVG. The committee unanimously agreed to designate an annual $2,000 scholarship for Ridgetown College in memory of Whitson. This allows the OPVG and the OFPA to offer up to eight $2,000 bursaries to students this fall. Applicants must be registered as a lull-time student at an Ontario college or university entering the second, third or fourth year of study. If you require further information regarding the bursaries, contact: John Mumford, Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers, 519-681-1875 or Janisse Routledge, Ontario Food Processors Association, 519-767- 5594. The Bursary Application Form is available on the OPVG website (or on request from either the OPVG or OFPA offices). Applications are to be submitted no later than Sept. 30 and will be received by regular mail at 435 Consortium Court, London, ON N6E 2S8, by e-mail ta opvg@opvg.org or fax 519-685- 5719.
