Traffic’s terrific
It looked more like a 400-series highway in the dawning
hours of Tuesday morning, as fans and racers started to
arrive for the annual motocross national championship
races at Lees’ farm outside Walton. The event will run
through this weekend (Bonnie Gropp photo)FROM WALTON
PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON
Congratulations to Cliff and
Marion Huffman who celebrated
their 25th anniversary on the
weekend. The Walton Hall was
decorated beautifully for the come-
and-go tea in the afternoon.
The couple along with relatives
and friends enjoyed a delicious
meal, prepared by the family,
following the afternoon social.
The Walton Hall is looking good
as the renovations and siding are
well underway.
Walton is changing with the Hall’s
new look and the demolition of the
former Mark’s garage. Owner Jim
Campbell is busy cleaning up.
The old Strome house has also
been torn down.
John and Andrew VanVIiet have
moved into their new home on
Moncrieff Road.
Our condolences to the family and
friends of Glenn McNichol who
passed away last week. He was a
former Walton-McKillop resident
who had resiaed in Seaforth for a
while.
The skies were busy over some
farms just west of Walton last
Monday as helicopters were flying
Busy week for Brewers
The diamond at Walton was busy
this past week with the Brewers
playing twice.
On Thursday evening they hosted
the Exeter Braves and won 3-1.
Scott Leonhardt pitched the
complete game, fanning 10 batters.
Scott McDonald was two for three
at the plate. Steve Hopf went three
tor three earning one RBI and Steve
Leonhardt and Steve Knight earned
RBIs.
It was a different story on
Wednesday night when the Goderich
Orioles defeated Walton 7-2. Steven
Leonhardt pitched well for the first
two innings, then the Goderich bats
went to work. Scott Leonhardt came
in relief but the Orioles continued
the assault.
Steve Knight hit a solo homerun
lor the Brewers and Larry Lowes
look a fluke ricochet off his pitching

of police cars and men scoured the
area and were quite busy.
Holidaying with Grandpa Howard
and Grandma Audrey was young
Sebastian Andrades. He tells me he
was quite busy helping take down
fence, pulling out trees with the
truck, cutting grass, picking stones
with the lawn tractor and trailer and
helping great-uncle Elliott swath
hay. He went with Grandma and
Grandpa. along with Mary

McDonald and Betty Gill for a day
away and lunch at AnnaMae's.
Sebastian is going into Grade 2 in
September and with a little
prompting is thrilled and excited
about going back to school.
Returning from a great vacation to
British Columbia are Laura and
Bethany Black. They spent 10 days
in Vancouver with their mom’s
cousins and families but mainly
stayed with cousin Brian and
teenagers Devon and Dillon.
The flights went well, especially
with getting TVs. although they
almost missed it coming home by a
few minutes.
Every day was packed with
activities including a visit to
Playland, biking around Stanley
Park, the International Fireworks
Competition, going to Horseshoe
Bay, Lynn Valley Park, Whytecliff.
Gas Town and attending a barbecue
on Kitsilano Beach.
They also went shopping on
Robson Street, swimming and go-
karting. The highlight of the trip was
touring the movie/television studios
where shows such as Reunion
toe while batting and left the game
with a very sore mouth.
Brewers have a busy schedule in
the next few weeks and are usually
home on Tuesday evening games at
8 p.m.

inside scoop while being personally
escorted by a friend, meeting and
talking with producers, actors and
other crew members.
They were on-set while they
filmed scenes and saw all the sets
inside and out.
Bethany and Laura didn't have
much time to rest when they
returned as they joined their parents
Brian and Joan for a trip to a cottage
on Skootama Lake, northwest of
Belleville. They enjoyed swimming,
kayaking, fishing, games and lots of
reading for a more peaceful
vacation. A day shopping in
Belleville rounded off the week
away.
Returning from a victorious two
days in Windsor and the senior
games was Joan Perrie. Joan was the
first-place winner in the Women's
Prediction 3 km. walk in a field of
almost 30 competitors. They walked
through Assumption Park, lined with
beautiful sculptures, in under 30
minutes, with Joan only off her
predicted time by 28 seconds.
Joan was representing the
southwestern Ontario Region and
was among 538 total competitors in
15 games.
They stayed at St. Clair College
and were well fed and watered while
there. The two days of activities
were capped off with a banquet and
presentations on the final evening.
Congratulations to Joan.
Our condolences to the Perrie
families on the passing of Clara
