Ball fans and players from the area were disap­ pointed that the ball tournament in Brussels was rained out on Sunday. Travelling through the area we could sec the damage that rain has caused the bean fields as well. The Hardings worked late on Saturday evening trying to get their new root on before the rain came ((H) Congratulations to Dwayne Evans and Melanie Mohr who had a beau­ tiful day on Saturday, July 23 for their wedding in the Lutheran Church in Wellesley. Their reception was held in the Stratford Golf and Country Club. Murray and Marlene Fischer and Marion Sellers have returned from a ihree-week vacation in the west. Some highlights of their trip are the bean fields in Manitoba that the rain had flooded out. visiting a nephew in Saskatchewan. the Calgary Stampede. Banff and Lake Louise. They drove through the Rocky Mountains and took a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria where they visited Marlene's aunt. They drove through Cranbrook, B.C. and came home by way of the United States starling from Montana. After eating in restaurants for most ol the time, they really enjoyed meals with relatives along the way too. Salmon steak served in B.C. was a great hit On Saturday Leslie and Yvonne Knight entertained about 25 mem­ bers of Jeff and Nancy Knight’s fam­ ily in honour of their IOth wedding anniversary. As Rick Knight was also playing ball with the Walton Masters on Saturday there was a lot of traffic from the Knights' to Brussels to see ball games as well. Harvey and Marion Smith spent a few days last week at a cottage with their daughter Donna Wells and fam­ ily at Rondeau. On Sunday Marion attended a baby shower for Chancey in Listowel at the home of Lorie Traver. We arc sorry to report Ross Knight is in Listowel hospital. Sara Baker really enjoyed her front row seat for the Canadian PGA Championship at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambr dge from Thursday to Sunday. She was marshalling at the lltli. I5th. second and sixth holes, doing different shifts of crowd control during the golf tournament. She received a free shirt, hat and round of golf for her trouble. i he Ethel Bantam girls won two bait games last week beating both Stanley and Sebringville girls. The Premites won against Brussels and the slo-pitch team won in Benmiller. I he PeeWee girls lost to Londesborough in Ethel and the PeeWee boys lost to Brussels in Ethel last week. The PeeWee girls end their year in a tournament on Aug. 5. The PeeWee boys host a tournament in Ethel on Aug. 13 to end their year Sympathy is extended to the Smith family on the passing ol Lloyd Hodges. FROM CRANBROOK Martins host Ethel euchre Assists Kids ’ Help Phone The Grey firefighters donated $300 towards the Kids’ Help Phone on Saturday morning at the Ethel Park. Winners were: share the wealth, Mary Huether and Ross Stephenson, high, Eleanor Stevenson, Frank McKenzie; lone hands, Leota Thompson, Allan Edgar, Jean Schneider. Marion Behrns, Marguerite Beirnes; low. Mac Smith, Marlene Johnston. There were many tally prizes. The next euchre will be held on Monday. Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. Women are asked to bring a lunch. Donate to playground The Grey firefighters and two service clubs from Brussels were on hand Saturday morning to make donations to the Ethel Park Committee for playground equipment that was already installed. The Grey Firefighters gave $1,000, the Brussels Lions Club, $2,000 and the Brussels Optimist Club, $1,000.
