Hemingway said he is going to thoroughly check the engine as well as give the plane a good going over to check for damage. “I hope to put it back into the air within a year,” he said. He indicated when he gets it up and flying it will be the second oldest plane of its kind. “It will be the oldest of its kind in Canada," said Hemingway. He noted that one of his customers will be bringing in a Tiger Moth in mid-August for some maintenance work. On a wing Ross Hemingway gives new meaning to getting a business off the ground as he works on one of the planes brought in to Hemingway Aviation. (Jim Brown photo) By Jim Brown Citizen staff For over 30 years, Ross Hemingway has been helping to maintain aircraft. Now. he can work on the planes from his own hangar located along Cranbrook Road. “The hangar was put up a year ago, and the strip was put in at the same time,” he said. Hemingway works on private aircraft, and has about 37 years experience working on aircraft at various locations across Canada. He has worked in Thompson and Churchill, MB and points north. He worked at Time Air in Lethbridge, AB for a couple of years and prior to having triple by-pass surgery was working for Air Ontario/Air Canada/Jazz. After having the bypass surgery, he was told to take it easy. Now he just works on the aircraft when he can, but instead of having to go to the aircraft, they are brought to him at his hangar and airstrip. A number of his customers have been with him for close to 30 years. Some people have sold their aircraft, and the person who bought it continues to bring the plane to him for maintenance. “Now I can do more maintenance work,” said Hemingway, “ as I now have the equipment to do more extensive repairs.” x His sons Lyle and Darren have helped him in the past, and they both still assist. They also sell aircraft fuel and oil from the airstrip. According to Hemingway, he will help people put plane kits together or will put them together himself if the other person is uncomfortable about doing it. At the present time he is working on restoring a 1941 Er coupe, which is a two-seater aircraft. He said it's considered pre-war because it was Good start Sam Sholdice serves it up as the Blyth Festival Young Company hosted a breakfast on Tuesday morning.
