THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 28, 2005. _____Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Fed steers, heifers sell $2-$3 higher Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending July 22 were 2,069 head of cattle, l,033 lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed steers and heifers sold $2 to $3 high­ er. Choice steers and heifers sold $95 to $100 with sales to $120; sec­ ond-cut steers and heifers sold $90 to $95. The cows traded actively at prices $15 to $20 higher. On Thursday the veal sold on a strong active demand with prices $2 to $3 higher. The lambs sold on a good active trade on a lower market. On Friday all weights and classes of stockers sold on a strong active trade with prices steady to last week. There were 437 steers on offer. Don Shiell, Wingham, consigned one limousin steer weighing 1,290 lbs. which sold for $110. His overall offering of thirteen steers averaged 1,453 lbs. selling for an average price of $94.77. Twenty steers con­ signed by Abner Metzger, Wallenstein, averaged 1,289 lbs. which sold for an average price of $96.77 with his top black steer weighing 1,100 lbs. selling for $109.50. Dan Hoggart, Londesborough, consigned one lim­ ousin steer weighing 1,360 lbs. which sold for $105.50. Three steers consigned by Weigand Farms, Dashwood, averaged 1,345 lbs. which sold for an average price of $104.33 with their top two limousin steers averaging 1,298 lbs. selling for $107. Maynard B. Martin, Drayton, con­ signed eight limousin steers averag­ ing 1,293 lbs. which sold to Norwich Packers for $103.50. His overall offering of twelve steers averaged 1,331 lbs. selling for an average price of $100.94. Twenty-nine steers consigned by Hugh Love, Atwood, averaged 1,422 lbs. which sold for an average price of $99.67 with his top three limousin steers averaging Triplet Jersey heifers born A cow owred by Fred and Ruth Armstrong of Donnybrook Road gave birth to triplet calves on July 20. All three are heifers. The mother was Huronia Renaissance Michelle, a five-year jersey cow. According to Ruth Armstrong, the three may well be identical as they are solid brown in colour, with no markings. Each heifer has a cowlick in the same spot on her back. Thirty­ eight steers consigned by Elliott Farms, Melbourne, averaged 1,461 lbs. which sold for an average price of $95.99 with his top limousin steer weigning 1,440 lbs. selling for $ 106. There were 191 heifers on offer. Johnston Farm, Bluevale, consigned one blue heifer weighing 1,215 lbs. which sold for $120. Their overall offering of twenty-four heifers aver­ aged 1,384 lbs. selling for an aver­ age price of $108.39. One limousin heifer consigned by Merkley Farms, Wroxeter, weighed 1,195 lbs. which sold for $110. Their overall offering of four heifers averaged 1,199 lbs. selling for an average price of $101.94. M-R Farms, Exeter, con­ signed two limousin heifers averag­ ing 1,268 lbs. which sold for $109. Their overall offering of five heifers averaged 1,260 lbs. selling for an average price of $108.30. One limousin heifer consigned by Roy McIntosh, Listowel, weighed 1,185 lbs. which sold to Holly Park Meat Packers for $97.50. Darren Johnston, Bluevale, consigned two limousin heifers averaging 1.198 lbs. which sold for $100. His overall offering of ten heifers averaged 1,266 lbs. selling for an average price of $96.27. Armstrong said it is very rare for their cows to have twins, let alone triplets. “This is a once in a lifetime occur­ rence for us,” she said.
