(Jim Brown photo) Tigers post fourth win with decision over Walton The Brussels Tigers recorded their fourth win ol the season last Friday, as they scored a 5-2 decision over the Walton Brewers, in a game played in Ethel. Jeff Newell and Doug Conley were each 2-for-3 at the plate lor the l igers and Corey Campbell had two hits in four at-bats and scored two runs Shawn Daw also rapped out a hit. Daw went the distance on (he mound for the Tigers, allowing 10 hits and a walk, while striking out eight Walton batters. With the win. the Tigers improved to 4-10-1 in Huron County Fastball League play. The Tigers split a pair of games with Goderich-based teams in league play last week. Playing in Goderich on July 10. the Tigers posted an 8-1 decision over the Gators to improve their league record to 3-9-1 Conley hurled a five-hitter in going (he distance on the mound for the victory. He recorded six strikeouts Scott Cox, Ken Higgins and Newell were each 2-for-4 at the plate for the Tigers. Higgins had three runs batted in and scored two w;hile Newell had two RBls and two runs scored and Cox scored a run. Campbell and Conley each added one hit. Scoring single runs were Campbell. Cory Quesenberry and Doug Shaw. The Tigers returned to Goderich on July 13 and were handed a 5-2 setback by the Orioles. Shaw was 3-for-4 at the plate and scored a run. Quesenberry clubbed a solo homerun for the Tigers, in three at-bats. Scott McCraney was 2-for-3 at the plate, while single hits were added by Conley. Cox and Newell. Cox went the distance on the mound, giving up six hits and two walks while striking out three. The Tigers are in Atwood on July 28 for an 8 p.m. contest against the Avengers Lightning downs Goderich team in final game of regular season Blvth Flames down Brussels On July 14, Biyth Flames travelled to Brussels to play the final game of the regular U-13 co­ ed soccer season. Jason Young and lamie Pollard were the Flames’ game captains. Brussels was first to score on a great breakaway. lordon Rinn passed the ball to Brent Drost to lie the game. Drost scored again to bring the score to 2- 1 for Biyth at half time. Biyth was first to score after the half-time break when Rinn passed the ball to Drost for his third goal of the game. Brussels scored to bring the score a little closer. Then Kurtis Kolkman passed the ball up to Rinn for his second goal of the game. Drost advanced the ball toward Brussels net and Kolkman made a beautiful shot to score just before the game ended. Jacob VanDorp played a great game in net as Blyth's goalkeeper. The Flames concentrated on playing their positions and moving up the field as three lines, said coach Mary Ann Drost. This teamwork earned the Flames a 5-2 win for a three-game Biyth winning streak. The U-13 year-end tournament will be played in Lucknow July 19- 23. Biyth Pre-Mite As dow'ii Londesborough The final game of the U-ll Lightning co-ed soccer team was played on July 12 at the Sparling field in Biyth. Goderich IV was the visiting team. The Lightning’s game captain was Averly Kikkert. Leendert VanDorp covered the net, as goalkeeper during the first half for Biyth. He played well and didn’t let any balls get past him. Jean Paul VanDorp scored Blyth’s only goal during the first half, while Marijke Oudshoorn and Lucan Frawley were credited for assists. ' L. VanDorp took a penalty shot after the Goderich hand ball to score the first goal after half-time. Blyth's Wyatt Bearss assisted a goal scored by Michelle Studhalter. L. VanDorp and Bearss assisted the final goal of the game from Courtney Monk. During the second half J.P. VanDorp tended the net and also earned a shut-out. Biyth Lightning played a strong game and played their positions well to earn a 4-0 victory against Goderich. The Lightning season ended with five wins, one tie and three losses. July 12 they played against Londesborough in a game that ended with a 23-2 victory. Homeruns were by Amy Badley. Ryan Plunkett, Joshua Kuperus and Franklin Marshall. Drew Van Wyk and Kathryn Chalmers stroked doubles. Brianna Kuperus, Amy Boyce. Samantha Kerr, Brandon Biyth Mite As fall to Benmiller Biyth Mite As played against Benmiller on July 13. Benmiller ended with a 17-12 v iclory. . Ryan Nesbitt did an excellent job pitching. Christina Eckert, Keyonia Johnston and Trystan Weber got homeruns. Nesbitt got a grandslam. Iiil-in coaches were Russ and Kens Nesbitt and Rick and Lauric Van VVvs Marshall made great plays throughout the game. T.J. Pavao had an awesome triple in the second inning. With a broken arm Cory Ducharme played a great backcatch and did some amazing one-armed batting.
