WALTON
By Jo-Ann
McDonald

The week around Walton started
off on a sad note with the funeral of
Herb Traviss. Many Walton area
friends attended the service at
Northside United Church, and the
Brussels Cemetery for the burial.
Our sympathies are extended to
the Traviss families.
The Walton Hall Board members
were busy on Saturday catering to a
party in Blyth for John and Sheron
Stadelmann. Judy Lee, Judy
Emmrich, Barb Durell and Jo-Ann
McDonald worked at the function
and members of the Walton
Women's Institute provided the
desserts. Funds raised go to the
upcoming hall renovations.
Many Walton-area young men
were off for a summer camping
outing for four days. They travelled
to Port Loring and spent time
fishing, boating, swimming, and
relaxing.
Taking the time for fun were
Darryl Houston, Robbie McClure,
Devin and Chris Blake, Scott
McDonald. Jason Denys, Steve
Henderson. Steve Carnochan and
Barry Young.
it was party time on Saturday tor
Gerald Watson who celebrated being
80 years young. There were family
and friends present at Huron Haven
from all over.
Family members Mary Bernard,
Anne Curreri and Sandra Butler and
families provided the barbecued
hamburgers and hot dogs. Over 120
guests provided the potluck meal.
Guests were able to swim at the
pool, enjoy the recreation centre and
visit. Gerald’s sister, Leona and
husband Ray Nelson from
Vancouver B.C. planned their
vacation to be here and enjoy a visit
with all.
Relatives attended from Toronto.
Windsor, Hamilton. Montreal and
the local area.
Walton folks attending included
Leona McDonald, Marie Coutts,
Margery Huether. Fred and Heidi
McClure. Clyde and Cathy McClure
and Vai Shortreed, Brad and Krista.
Allan and Alice Searle, Emma and
Janet Shortreed, former Waltoners,
also attended.
Chris and Lisa Stevenson had son
Kyle baptized at Wingham Sacred
Heart Church on Sunday.
Grandparents Jim and Evelyn Blake
and Bev Stevenson, along with
great-grandparents George and
Marie Blake and Eleanor Stevenson
were able to attend. Godparents Ron
Stevenson and Lorraine Blake were
proud to stand up with Kyle.
A barbecue for family and friends
was held at Chris and Lisa s home
following the service.
The home of Brian and Shelley
McGavin was the gathering place lor
the Stewart reunion on Saturday. The
Stewarts are Neil McGavin's
mother's family connection.
Over 70 attended from as far as
Delta, British Columbia in the west,
to Peterborough in the east.

Chicago in the south and Toronto,

local area.
They enjoyed a buffet meal, fire
truck and wagon rides to the pond
and swimming al Brian's.
A farewell party for Marjorie
Fraser was held at the cabin of Bob
and Clara Blake on Sunday
afternoon. Neighbours of Marjorie
gathered to visit. A presentation was

catch up with other cousins on the
McGavin side of the family.

Campbells greet
Jim, Marcia and Matthew
Campbell greeted those attending
Duff’s United Church, Walton. The
flowers adorning the sanctuary were
placed in memory of Herb Traviss
by the family.
During the time for the Young at
Heart Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky showed
the children a stuffed dog and cat
toy. She had Tyler and Brooke Leslie
Ribey as her helpers to hold up the
dog or cat when the word was said.
It was a love story about a loving
old dog that helped a stray scraggly
kitten learn to love by continually
licking the kitten to clean it even
though the kitten would scratch the
dog. Over time the kitten accepted
the dog’s love and loved the dog
back by curling up with him.
This can relate to human love and
kindness which some may reject but
over time will also learn to love in
return.
Brian, Laura and Bethany Black
sang I Feel the Winds of God.
Rev. Joan’s reflection was
entitled, the Church: called to to
Waste Itself. She told the parable of
the sower and the seeds. The parable
had two sides of the story - the
offensive waste of the seeds along
the wayside and the good news of
the harvest of the properly planted
and maintained fields. "We don’t
know where or how the seeds or
people will fall or where or when the
seeds of' hope and faith will take
root. Someday we could be called to
spread the word and seeds of faith,”
she said. The offering was collected
by John Gillis and Jeff McGavin.
While Rev. Joan is on holidays. Rev.
Karen MacRae is on call for pastoral
care.
The service on July 24 will be
held outdoors at the regular time.
Bring lawn chairs.
Announcements for the bulletin
are to be to Monique Baan by
Wednesday at 5 p.m.
