Brussels Black I earns silver
Soccer tourney
The Blyth Yellow and the Blyth Red teams competed in the
Wingham U-9 invitational soccer tournament on Saturday.

Brussels Black I took the silver
medal of the Wingham U-9
invitational soccer tournament held
on Saturday.
They lost out to Goderich Silver
by two goals. Goderich Silver was
+ I6 to earn the gold medal and
Brussels Black I was +14. Both
teams had three wins. Third place
went to Lucknow Purple which had
three wins and were +5.
Brussels Black 1 defeated
Wingham Stainton 5-0, downed
Wingham Orange 9-0 and beat
Clinton Light Green 3-0.
Clinton Light Green placed
fourth, with two wins and +9;
Wingham Stainton placed fifth, with
two wins and +6; and sixth place
went to Wingham St. Willibrord
with two wins and +3.
Brussels Black II had one win, a
2-1 decision over Blyth Red.
Blyth Red also had a win, a 2-1
decision over Wingham The Anchor.
Blyth Yellow managed a 1-1 draw
with The Anchor team in their first
match of the tourney.
U-18 girls
striving for
success
Blyth’s U-18 Girls have been the
champions in their league for two
years in a row and they hope to
clinch the number one position as
they head into the playoffs.
The girls have 21 goals in their
favour and 12 goals against. Their
record of five wins, two losses and
two ties, along with one game left to
play, guarantees standings in the top
three in the league.
The final game of the season is
against St. Columban on Monday,
July 11. The playoffs will then take
place July 18 - 22 in Blyth at soccer
fields two and three.
The team is happy to have
returning players Anne Beth
VanDorp (Goalie), Charlotte
Worsell, Andrea Sturzenegger,
Jennie MacDonald, Kerissa
VanAmersfoort, Krista Shortreed,
Lauren Bouman, Kali Alcorn, Kristi
Butt, Jessica Nethery, Jessica
Wheeler, Lisa Carter, Jenna Rinn
(Goalie), Jennifer Williamson,
Ashlee Cook and Cassandra Uyl.
This year they welcume
newcomers Alisha Dale, Brandilyn
Bearss, Brittany Bos, Jessica
Sparling, Jory Uyl and Tasha
Hubbard.
The team has worked hard and
looks forward to holding their title
for another year.
Off to provincial
Drew Taylor of Blyth is off to St. Catharines this weekend to
compete in the provincial Legion track and field meet in the
boys' 15 and under high jump. He earned the right to
compete in the provincial meet by clearing the bar at 1.6
metres in the District C meet held June 18 in Kitchener.
There was a total of 360 athletes at the district meet, which
extends from Exeter to Owen Sound and from Kitchener to
Lake Huron. If successful at the provincial meet, Drew
would qualify for the Dominion meet set for Aug. 13-14 in
Edmonton, AB. Drew just completed Grade 9 at Central

Lightning beats Goderich
Bivlh Lightning co-ed U11 soccer team travelled to Goderich to play, July
5.
The host team was the Goderich McDonalds. Lightnings game captain was
Sadie Chalmers.
Early in the game, Jan Paul VanDorp was the first player to put Blyth on
the scoreboard after receiving a nice pass from Murray Dale. The next two
Blyth goals were scored by Derek deBoer, while Wyatt Bearss gets credit for
first assist on both goals. VanDorp earned a second assist on the last goal.
The score at halftime was 3-0 for Blyth.
Midway through the second half of the game Bearss passed the ball to
Zachary Drost. Drost chipped the ball into the net for the final goal of the
game
Goderich made some great shots in the Lightning net, but was unable to get
the ball past goalie Leendert VanDorp, who played a strong game to earn the
shutout.
The final score was a 4-0 victory for Blyth.
