Local youth benefit from Summer Company program

This year, mentors include Donna
lay lor Irom Blylh Apothecary in
Blylh: J.D. Graham Irom the Perth
Community Futures Development
Corporation; and Susan Graham,
owner of P’lovers in Stratford. These
individuals will meet with the young
entrepreneurs on a regular basis
during the summer, assisting with the
management side ot operating of
business
I he students will participate in a
series ol business training workshops,
which are also open to the public. The
Business Start-up Series began with
Designing ar. Effective Record
Keeping System followed by Setting
and Achieving. Business Goals (July
7). To encourage participation ot
small business owners, workshops are
held in the evenings from 7 - 9:30

Cecil Moore on medical board
New venture
Elise Ringgenberg is
Cecil Moore was appointed to the
Brussels Medical Board by Huron
East council at its regular meeting
on June 28
Clerk-administrator Jack Mc
Lachlan indicated they had
advertised lor the position but no
applications were forthcoming.
They then contacted the person
who had been recommended for the
position - Cecil Moore - and he
accepted.
The sub-committee was
comprised of mayor Joe Seili.
councillors Fergus Kelly and Frank
Stretton. Bedard, district chief
Murray McArter and deputy district
chief Max McLellan.
Bedard indicated the Brussels
firefighters also reviewed the
tenders and they had no objections
to accepting the

Enterprise Centre in Seaforth
Designed for students aged 15-29
who are going back to school full
time, this program provides for up to
$1,500 toward start-up costs and.
upon successful completion of the
program requirements, the student is
eligible for an additional award of up
to $1,500.
Each student submitted a
comprehensive business plan with
their application and participated in
approved
Two area students, as a result ot
their participation in the 2005
Summer Company competition, are
starting full-time businesses this
summer with financial assistance
from the Ministry of Economic
Development and Trade (MEDT).
Successful applicants include Kim
Krempien of Mitchell and Elise
Ringgenberg of Seaforth.
Elise Ringgenberg of Elysee
Sewing Workshop, will be creating
and sewing original clothes at
affordable prices. Customers will
select and style and fabric and Elise
will design and fit the clothes at her
home near Seaforth. Ringgenberg is
also prepared to repair and readjust
old favourites for her customers.
Kim Krempien is operating Spiffy
Clothing. She will both manufacture
and retail men’s and women’s
clothing and accessories, and plans to
market her garments through a series
of fashion shows to be held at her
parents' yoga studio in downtown
Stratford. Trousers, simple jersey
tops, easy skirts and a line of fun and
fresh swimming suits will be her main
focus
The Summer Company program
aims to inspire more young people to
choose entrepreneurship as a career
and equip them with the tools they
need to succeed. The Ministry is
granting 300 Summer Company
awards this year, and we’re pleased
that Huron County won two of them,

pumper tanker for the Brussels

The committee selected the tender
from Metallab Fire Apparatus ot
New Brunswick, at a cost of
$226,760, excluding taxes.
This is a 2(X)5 budgeted item, with
council budgeting $225,500 for the
new vehicle.
Fire chief Marty Bedard reported
the truck is expected to be delivered
in March of 2006 and will include a
2006 chassis.

Public works co-ordinator John
Forrest reported that all the A gravel
maintenance contracts for 2005 had
been completed.
He added that all dust control for
the year has been installed.
The chip and tar contract in Grey
was expected to be completed by
June 23.***
Council accepted the quotation of
Innovative Security Systems to
provide a security system at the
Huron East municipal office at the
estimated cost of $1,320 and a basic
monitoring service -of $280 per
year.

Furniture in Seaforth has been sold to David &
Charlotte Strome. Dave has been Box Furnitures
carpet installer for over 18 years. We’re very happy to
