Second Seaforth valedictorian bids farewell By Gwynne Burgess The word vale dictorian comes from the Latin root “vale” meaning: goodbye or farewell. Well, my friends, l give you my farewell speech on behalf of the graduating class. Somehow, between playing with Barbies and Tonka Toys, between Sailor Moon role playing and making awe some forts, between folk dancing and C'est Le Rock de Dinosaur, we man aged to make it here tonight. Congratulations, tellow graduates. There are many things I will remem ber about mv elementary school career the chill in the computer lab. the mould in the back of Mr. L’s classroom, and Mrs. Reynolds' enthusiasm about getting up and down the stairs. But mostly. I will remember my classmates. At this point in time. I remember Justin for being on (he top of all the lists - academics or sports and not |ust because he is first alphabetically. And there’s Megan, who's got enough com petitive edge to go on to take the athlet ic world by storm. I'll always remember Hillary for being one of two things, either totally hyperactive, or totally cheerful. And whenever you're in the hallways. Lukas is always the first to greet you or other people. Terry is the tall and friendly guy we all love. I know Alex will never cease to perform hilarious imitations off televi sion and movies that crack everyone up. I will never forget Christina's "girl power" motives to prove that she can do a lot ot sluff way better than all the boys. Mike is always cracking hilarious jokes. And Jeffman. you're still my favourite superhero/rock star combo. And who will ever forget Darin “Double Dose” Dick, who's always got a rhyme up his sleeve. Scott is the quite, but lunny. reality-show enthusiast. And who could forget Shawna s signature smile that she flashes nearly all the time. David isn't full of complications and is always willing to give others a help ing hand. I ll never forget Sarah s laugh as contagious as a cold. Derek's always full of laughs and walks around with a smile on his lace. Tanya is still the same caring person she's always been since (he day I met her. I ll never forget Kyle’s enthusiasm towards anything and everything, even it it is trying to lick Mrs. Spillane off. Barb's willingness to try new things will forever impress me. Tyler H. has got some pretty sweet computer hack ing skills and will drum as much as Ins heart desires. Daring. Exciting. Amazing and Nutty - that's D.E.A.N. for you Jennie is continually willing to help anyone when they need it And I can never forget Brittany's signature James Bond moves. I'm pretty sure that there have only been a few rare moments where I didn't see Matt K. with a basketball, which he rocks at. Brad proves the old saying “blondes have more fun". And then there’s Tyler L.. who can rarely keep a |oke quiet and is always making people laugh during class And there's Tyler M . otherwise known as Mario, who. like one ot the Super Mario Brothers, never gives up trying until he accomplishes what he wants to accomplish Jade could beat any one of us in any spoil you can name. Nicolas is always lull of life, whether it's swinging on the swings al recess, in a heated game ot lag. or bik ing around after school If anyone. Aly is the one to keep her spirits up and find humour in any thing Jamie s determination to find some thing lunny or positive in every situa tion continually amazes me. Whenever I see Alan. +ns brain is soaking up knowledge from the thick books he's always reading. Ben is sure to soar, whether in a plane, or in his whole life altogether Brent is full of determination, whether for learning a new song on his guitar or playing an intense game of basketball. And Tanner will forever be remembered for being the chess master of all chess masters. Katelyn Watson is always perky and full of school spirit. Then there’s Kaitlynn Wilson, who is destined for a career on stage, full of fame and for tune. Not only have my classmates left a lasting impression on me. but my teachers have too. They have each, in their own way. helped us all. They taught lessons both in the classroom, on the basketball court, and the lessons about life. For that, we are full of grati tude towards them. As we go on tonight, we may bid farewell to some friends, teacher and this school building that we have become so familiar with. We move on to high school, going into different classes among different schools. But 1 know we will not forget what it took to get there and the wonderful people we have met. So there you have it. My valedictory speech Congratulations to my fellow graduates i wish you all the best. Thinking about school fills head with memories Continued from page 13 time, we just wanted elementary school to be over, but now that it’s ending it is sad to think about it. When I think back to Brussels Public School, my head becomes flooded with memories. Of course we have to men- non Cody in Grade 3. While I m sure everyone had heard this story a million times it still makes you smile every time someone mentions it. During a test Cody kindly told Mrs. McKee, his dad was wondering a ques tion. Of course without thinking Mrs. McKee answered Cody, thinking she was doing him a favour, not knowing that he had just asked her a question off the lest qnd she had just revealed to him the answer. then of course there was the time, during the Camp Celtic trip. On the wav there on the hus Justin Pipe ate six Tim Horton's donuts within 10 minutes.' Oh yes, and just as a warning, if you happen to walk in on one of Mr. Weber’s very tense math classes, don’t be too surprised if he's singing about trees, which he was caught doing this year. Also, we can all probably recall the times when Mr. Weber was trying to give instructions, when his voice would squeak, and sound funny, and we'd burst out laughing. And who can't deny they realized the days Mr. Weber wasn't wearing plaid although that was very rare. It is weird to think that we are leaving (he place that we completed our first project at. participated in our first track and field at, look our first class trip together at. and that we have already went on our last class trip, had our last track and field, and completed our last assignments in elementary school com pleting the "lasts" was a relief, but remembering the "firsts”, sure does make you smile. We may not realize how much of a life-changing experience this may be. I'm sure we all have a vision of high school in our heads, there we will be introduced to so many new options. 'm sure there will be those days when we miss our little elementary school, but then we will see one of our class mates smiling faces heading down the hall, and we'll remember everyone's still there tor you when you need them. We are the graduates of 2005. and are yet another class that has survived Brussels Public School. It is our time to shine, and celebrate, our time to antici pate what lies ahead of us. and our time to revisit old memories. Ladies and gen tlemen I'd like to proudly present the Brussels graduates of 2005. In the words of Mr. Weber, “Whoa, whoa, whoa!” What a great bunch of young adults, if I do say so myself!
