BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday. July 3 was Joann MacDonald. Ushers were Karen Giousher. Rob and Karen Mason and Margaret Kai was guest organist. Emily Phillips welcomed everyone to church. For the children’s story Emily read the book A Very Special Critter. In the story the teacher told the critters they would have a new special student coming to school tomorrow. The new student's name was Alex and he was in a wheelchair and came to school on a special bus Everyone had lots of questions. Alex could do most things lor himself except he needed help getting over bumps and getting things down from the top shell. Alex was a very good artist and won a prize. Everyone shared in his prize which was ice cream. If everyone works together many things can be accomplished, said Emily. The lectionary gospel reading was Matthew II: 25-30. The responsive Psalm 145 was led by Ollie Craig. Emily introduced the congregation to the new minister. Rev. Robin McGauley. Rev. McGauley’s message to the adults was Encounters with Strange Texts. In the scripture Matthew told of how Jesus was angry with the people who didn't understand Him. Jesus said a prayer to God. thanking Him for giving Him the children to understand. Children have to depend on older people to nature them but they have trust, and understanding. God reveals the truth to those who arc like children to be simple and understanding. Over the centuries the church has gained status and understanding. God has promised to take care of us as a Church. Emily Phillips invited everyone to coffee time and at the back of the church to meet Rev. McGauley.
