Students were divided into cross-grade groups and shared books that they had written. Storyteller Rob Neves, from the Listowel area, delighted the students with humorous stories. In the afternoon all classes were given a«chance to write comments in their fellow schoolmates’ books. The adults visited and looked through the new history book written by Ron Higgins about all the descendants of Frances and Elijah Higgins. This year’s president Ross Higgins called all to the potluck supper. The family decided to meet again in two years and will have the following committees: president, Doreen Marks; secretary/treasurer, Kim Higgins; invitations, Donna Barger; sports, the Fitch family; lunch, Carol Hawley, Wilma Higgins and Marilyn Penner. The prizes went to: the oldest, Carmen Farrier; youngest, Hunter Kelly; closest birthday, Kathy Fitch; coming the farthest, Carol Hawley; candy guess, Jason Barger. Members of the Sunday school and the junior choir took leading roles in the annual Sunday school anniversary and chicken barbecue al Knox United Church, Belgrave, Sunday, June 19. Marlene Procter, Sunday school co-ordinator, welcomed everyone. Trevor Raynard led in the responsive Call to Worship and Matthew Cottrill led in the opening prayer. The Sonshine Singers, led by Lila Procter, sang A Great Big God and I Am a C. They were accompanied by Sanford Clare. Chris Shiell led in the responsive Psalm and Laura Higgins read the scripture from Hebrews. Heidi Raynard introduced the Sunday school presentation. The Heart of the Race. They used the scripture from Hebrews: “We have around us many people whose lives tell us what faith means, so let us run the race that is before us and never give up.” Matthew Cottrill, Trevor Raynard. Laura Higgins, Ben Pletch, Chris Shiell and Gabriel Carter acted out their story using tricycles to prepare for the race, highlighting the preparations for the journey, as well as the pitfalls they may run into. When they were prepared for their journey it was likened to their life’s journey, as they rode the tricycles Janice was involved in the Triple Crown Provincial Women’s Softball Tournament in Palmerston. Laura is a pitcher, and Mark is one of the coaches of the Palmerston Marlins midget girls team. This weekend, they won their third gold medal of the ball season. Several members of the Stevenson and Wightman families were there for the Saturday game, and Karen and Ellen Cook and Nicole Robinson attended the Sunday game which was played in Harriston. Laura was the winning pitcher on Saturday afternoon against Stratford, with the score 17-2. In the evening game the Marlins were down 4-3 in the sixth inning, but Cobourg managed to get three runs. In the top of the seventh the Marlins could only muster three runs, and lost 7-6. Laura pitched the final inning, shutting the Cobourg team down with five pitches. Sunday afternoon saw the Palmerston Marlins in the gold- Ethel euchre results The Ethel euchre was held on Monday, June 20. The next euchre will be held on Monday, July 4 at 8 p.m. Women are asked to bring a lunch. Winners were: share-the-wealth, Lois McLean, Linda Stevens; high lady, Marguerite Beimes; high man, Marion Behrns; lone hands, Eva Harrison, Helen Dobson, Margaret Peebles; low lady, Hilda Holmes; low man, Walter Seiler. Gabriel Carter, Chris Shiell, Lindsay Shiell and Curtis Raynard took up the offering. Jessica Procter, Brianna Yuill and Andrea Shiell each led in the prayers of the people. Gloria Dow presented each of the Sunday school teachers with a token of appreciation for their work with the students during the year. Rev. Ethel Miner Clare thanked the students and teachers for their participation, in the service and pronounced the benediction. The chicken barbecue was cooked by some of the men of the congregation and the lunch was prepared by the teachers and their helpers. Some enjoyed their dinner on the church la.wn while others gathered around tables in the basement. WI visits Gardens The Belgrave Women’s Institute began their June meeting with a lour of Greyhaven Gardens at Londesborough viewing the wide variety of plants. The business meeting opened with the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. The roll call was answered by 15 members and one guest. medal game against Brantford with Laura pitching a one-run game, winning the gold medal 12-1. Other teams entered were from Etobicoke, which lost the bronze medal game to Cobourg, Burlington and Stratford. Sunday morning Jonathon Matheson was confirmed in the Molesworth Presbyterian Church. The family was present and enjoyed a potluck dinner after the service. FROM BELGRAVE The minutes of the previous meeting and financial statement were given by Doreen Marks. The president, Audrey Fenton congratulated Mary Hunter, Jean Nethery and Doreen Marks on passing the safe food handling course. The convenors for the upcoming banquets will be Dianna Robinson. Dorothy Coultes and Mary Hunter. Some members will be attending the Quilts, Quills and Bears show and sale in Mississauga in September. Linda Campbell has volunteered to mow the lawn at the hall. The meeting closed by singing grace and a social time was enjoyed with lunch served by Audrey Fenton and Dianna Robinson. The monthly meetings will resume again in September.
