Last Sunday Ron Enns of Auburn
made an imprint on the spectators of
Grand Bend Motorplex drag races.
With almost 50 people to beat out,
Ron managed a third-place win in

the Harley ET class. Man and
machine against the clock With
competitors from all over Ontario
and parts of the U.S. Enns is pleased
with his showing especially
considering this was his first time
racing. Ron was driving a Harley
Davidson 1450 - Soft-tail Classic.
The racing commenced around
11:30 a.m. and went through to 6
p.m. With the heat being one of the
most relentless competitors - the
participants donned their helmet and
leather and through elimination
rounds the competition was down to
the cream-of-the-crop.
Ron was edged out of second by
two-one hundredths of a second.
Now that’s close! A jaw-dropper for
friends and family who had gone
along to cheer Ron onto his first
victory.
It won’t take much to remember
the events of last year and the
celebrations that ensued. Anyone
wishing to recapture some of the
down-home feeling among friends
can do so by offering to help out a bit
at the Dungannon 150th coming up
on July 29, 30. 31.
Volunteering is a great way to
make an ordinary act an
extraordinary accomplishment. Your
neighbour will thank you for it.
Don and Erma Cartwright of
Auburn left Thursday and returned
Sunday from a lovely visit with
family in Toronto. Erma reported a
great relaxing time with Don’s sister
and brother-in-law, Robert and Jean
(Cartwright) Williams.
Our sympathies go out to the
family of Kieth Good who passed
away on Saturday, June 25. The
Good family has been tested beyond
all reason recently. Mr. Good had
recently lost two brothers to cancer
as well as his wife and son due to an
accident. Our thoughts and prayers
,are with everyone during these dark
days.

Pet Rescue in battle
over licence fees

An issue that has been ongoing
between Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh council and owners of
Pet Rescue, once again came to
council at the June 21 meeting.
Pet Rescue, operated by Kathi
Newell-Nicholson, is located on
Mary Jane and Corey Breen’s
property and can shelter up to 14
dogs. Mary Jane is also a staff
member at Pet Rescue.
The issue began back in
November when Newell-Nicholson
and the Breens mutually agreed with
ACW council at the Nov. 16
meeting, that if the Breen property
(meaning the Pet Rescue shelter)
met the regulations in regards to
receiving a kennel licence, Pet
dairy farm and visiting cousins.
Wow, that sounds awesome. I
wonder if I could find some family
over there?
. The church service for Knox of
Auburn and Londesborough was
held at Camp Menesetung this week.
Knox UCW will meet on Monday,
July 4 at 8 p.m. Tatum Mathers,
niece of Ann Vincent, will be the
guest speaker. Tatum is a teacher at a
Muslim school in Calgary and will
be speaking of her experience. All
are welcome.
There is a community shower to
be held for Ruth Ann Bakker at
Knox Church (basement) July 23, at
7:30 p.m.
Ruth Ann is the daughter of
Marinus and Marg Bakker.
Rescue would only have to pay the
kennel fee of $100 instead of
individual dog fees. It was agreed
that by Jan. 1, 2005 the upgrades to
Pet Rescue would be completed and
if granted approval by local dog
catcher Bob Trick, a kennel licence
would be issued.
The minutes state “... Therefore
the foster home of Breens, as part of
Pet Rescue, will not require dog tags
for the pets at this residence, but the
flat kennel fee.”
ACW administrator clerk
treasurer Mark Becker said this
sentence reflected on the dogs that
Mary Jane was planning on adopting
out, but not her own, personal dogs.
The dogs that the Breens were
fostering and hoping to find a
suitable home for, fall under the
