Parson's 6 6h 0 0 store, 1 l , in Water Street, tied the animal to an awning post and went away. A few minutes later the horsetoihed his nose to the iron post and fell into the gutter like a log, Thomas Dawson ran to help the horse, but no sooner did he place his hand on the animal than lie (Dawson) fell dead. Thomas Seitz, who saw Dawson fall, hastened to his assistance and took hold of him to lifted him up, but received a terrible shock, and he to dropped to the €;'round as if dead. An electric light wire had eagg ed, and lay upon an iron rod extend- ing from the awning post to the build- ing, and the full force of electric cur- rent was passing down the iron post into the ground, The insulating ma terial had become thoroughly saturat- ed by the rain, ' The body of Dawson was carried into a store and laid upon the floor, where it still lies awaiting the action of the coroner. Mr. Seitz was only stunned, He got up, brushed his clothes and walked away. Neither was the horse killed. It was cut loose from the post lifted to his feet and driv- en off. Dawson was .a laborer and for. a number of years grave digger in St, George's cemetery. He was a large and powerful man, weighing over 200 pounds. He was well and favorably known, and leaves a wife and children. There is great excitement and indig- nation in the city. Thomas Dawson, the victim of the electric tragedy, was walking down the street and saw the horse tied to the awning post fall to the ground. He ran across the street to help it up. He took the horse by the bridle, some of the spectators say, and instantly fell pros- trate in the gutter. Others say that when he received the shock from the horse he staggered against the awn- ing post andhis left ear touched it. When his body'' was examined by the physician a burned spot was found on his left ear. The burn was a quarter of an inch wide and three quarters long, and there•was also a red spot on his head behind his ear about which the hair was singed a little. The physician examined the body carefully'. and discovered that the veins all over his body were distended or raised and slightly discolored.
