PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Jo-Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 Welcome home to Murray and Olene Dennis who spent a week away in Victoria. B C. They were there to attend their daughter Peggy’s convocation ceremony. She received her Masters in Leadership and Planning from the University of Royal Rhodes in Victoria. Peggy’s husband John and children Natalie and Adrienne also attended. Peggy works at the University of Western Ontario. While away the Dennises stayed near the harbour and toured the area. Murray and Olene flew from Victoria to Calgary and it was a beautiful clear descent into Calgary. They could see the Saddledome, Stampede grounds and other sites. They then flew home, enjoying their trip immensely. Congratulations to Peggy. Returning from a honeymoon cruise to Alaska were Dave and Shannon Soontiens. They saw some beautiful scenery but admit to being glad to get off the cruise ship. They WLS students put on talent show Walton Little School held its year- end celebration and talent show at Walton Hall last week. Children, Contribution Thanks to the hard work and generosity of the Catering Group, the Brussels arena now has round tables for rent or events, new chairs, trays and coffee makers. With examples of the donations are long-time Group volunteers, Audrey Cardiff, left and Bessie Johnstone.(Bonnie Groppphoto) have returned back to their home in Kitchener and, of course, to work. Congratulations to Kevin and Heather Dunbar on the birth of son, Dawson James. This is the second grandson for Jim and Evelyn Blake. The party girls were off to J.D.’s in Bayfield to celebrate Mary Humphries’ birthday. They enjoyed a smorgasbord. There was a mini­ birthday cupcake complete with sparkler for the birthday girl. They toured around the area for the afternoon. Enjoying the outing were Anne Ryan, Marie Coutts, Audrey Hackwell and Marilyn McDonald. On Friday morning the Walton women also gathered to celebrate Mary’s birthday with coffee and cake. Joining together were Kathleen Williamson, Margery Huether, Helen Williamson, B.J. DeJong, Jeanne Kirkby, Marjorie Humphries, Marg Bennett, Marie Coutts, Leona McDonald and Audrey Hackwell. Friends, family and neighbours gathered on Thursday evening at Duff’s church for bride-to-be Sherry Hoegy. Judy Glauser and Betty McCallum hosted the shower with Olene Dennis conducting a contest, Heather Kelso doing a reading and Marie McGavin leading a singsong. In place of an address, Sherry was asked to tell those attending what she has been doing since she left our area. She’s nursed in London, Saudi Arabia and now in Greensville, parents and guests were welcomed by Naomi Pelss. She introduced the talent. The Whyte and Driscoll North Carolina, in a large trauma hospital. She received many beautiful gifts and will be married in October. Saturday was a hot day for the beautiful lawn wedding of Janice McCallum and Rob MacGillvary at the home of Ron and Betty McCallum. Approximately 120 guests witnessed the ceremony on the lawn, then enjoyed a meal in the white-and-blue tent. The reception was held on the property as well with guests enjoying a fantastic fireworks display after dark. Congratulations to the newlyweds. The Grade 8 students of St. James School including David Grobbink enjoyed a four-day trip to Quebec City. Tuesday and Friday were spent travelling, but they crammed a lot in the other two days. On Wednesday they visited Musee du Fort and viewed an historical presentation about the six sieges of Quebec. They went on a walking tour of old Quebec, a guided tour of the largest site of fortification in North America still occupied by troops, a horse-drawn buggy ride at Erabliere le Chemin du Roy and went swimming at Laval University. Thursday was just as busy starting with a guided tour of the Beaupre Coast, a visit to Basillica of St.- Anne-de-Beaupre and participation in a rally to discover the geological, botanical and hydrological aspects families did the Barnyard Dance and Danielle Bernard recited Z, Y, X’s. Lorren and Alaina Poland sang Twinkle, Twinkle, and Josie Murray sang A Bushel and a Peck with Carolyn Murray accompanying on guitar. Emma Strome played Stars Do Blink on the piano and Sarah Strome played Mary Had a Little Lamb. Katrina and Brian Terpstra did Jive and Megan and Matthew Campbell did songs and rhyme. Williamson women greet at Duff’s The Williamson ladies, Kathleen and Helen, greeted at Duff’s United Church, Walton. The small crowd listened to Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky recount her experience at London Conference and what she learned. The scripture reader was Marilyn McDonald and offering was collected by Monique Baan and Neil McGavin. There are still openings at Camp Menesetung. People with musical gifts to share for services in July are to call Brian Black. Donations for the Richard family of Uganda are still being accepted. of Chutes Ste. Anne. They enjoyed a visit to Atelier Pare, which had a wood carving workshop, gallery and boutique and a visit to Albert Gilles Copper Art Museum. The finished the day with a dance cruise aboard the M/V Louis Jolliet and headed home the next day. Sounds like a busy trip and David reports a great time. The Seaforth Public School Grade 6 class went to Camp Sylvan for a two-night, three-day adventure. On the way to Camp Sylvan they stopped at Rock Glen Conservation area. They went to the creek and found fossils and were allowed to keep one fossil each. They saw a beautiful waterfall while there. At Camp Sylvan they slept in chuckwagons, played games, went on hikes and adventured on an owl prowl. They enjoyed a campfire and shared skits and songs. They made bluebird boxes for all to take home. Local children attending were Joelle Glanville, Olivia Beuermann, Dan Lubbers, Jessica Baer and Curtis McCallum. Celebrating birthdays last week were Herb Travis, Mary Humphries, Jill Fritz, Quinn Driscoll, Kendra Wilts, Julie Ann Mitchell, Luc Belanger, Tabb McCallum, Ryan Martene, Nora Humphries, Larry Kale, Stephen Todd, Ken McCallum, Jennifer Rea, Sandy Terpstra, Kaitlin Becker, Kevin Huether and Caden Lee. Emma Taylor and Caden Lee sang You are My Sunshine. They were all delightful and during open mike many others offered to entertain. They were defeated by a score of 3-0. Scott Leonhardt was on the mound for the Brewers. They now have a record of four wins, four losses. The Walton Indians played in Seaforth against the Seaforth Eagles. The Indians were victorious by a score of 20-15 and keep their record unblemished with a five and zero standing. The Walton Wonders were away to play in Ethel against the Diehards on Thursday evening. They won their fourth game in a row by a score of 18-2. They will be home in Walton for the next five weeks.
