(Jim Brown photo) The scholars are in relaxation mode for a couple of months and well deserved too. Time for summer jobs, camp, visits with grandparents, swimming and just having some time to hang out. Hurrah! The Sauve and Schade kids were a busy crew on the weekend as they celebrated Mom and Uncle Ralph’s birthdays. Lots of folks dropped into the United Church on Saturday afternoon to meet and greet birthday pair. Then supper prepared for friends, relatives neighbours. The Alberta Stefflers heard beef was being cooked for celebration and decided it was time to return to Brussels just to be sure that it was done the proper way. Neil was kept pretty busy keeping all the cooks and helpers in line. It worked, because the meal was delicious. It was a nice party to honour two really nice folks - Ruth Sauve- the was and that this Lodge and the Brussels Legion support this remembrance of those from their membership who have passed away in the past year, as well as others who have laid to rest in the Brussels cemetery. The sermon was presented by the new padre of Branch 218, Rev. Tom Wilson. The cemetery looked its very best as usual, thanks to Doug Murray and Schade and Ralph Schade. Jim Smith and several of his family attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Gordon and Bernice Lyddiatt in Minden on Saturday. Gordon is Jim’s nephew. The pool is one busy spot this month. Lessons, exercises and just plain swimming make it a very popular place to be. Join the fun in the days and weeks ahead. Holiday time is very near for many families, getting ready to celebrate the end of school and the Canada Day weekend. For some, holidays are ready to begin. Equipment is being checked, supplies are being gathered, lists are being made, all part of the fun of getting ready to go. The destination is only part of the fun - the planning, the dreaming and the packing are also a big part of any holiday. Dig out your patriotic red and white outfit. Get out your Canadian flags and any other party things you need to celebrate. This year I have tattoos of Canadian flags and maple leafs to share. Spiffy eh! So wherever you are, get ready to celebrate the joy and privilege of living in the best country in the world. O Canada - our home and native land ... Ours to enjoy, so do it. Bye now, Betty G.W. the many families who placed flowers in memory of their loved ones. The Brussels Pipe Band led the parade and performed Amazing Grace. Used clothing store opens By Bonnie Gropp Citizen editor A new building and a change of name has revived a business in Brussels. Barbara Jo and Michael Hummel of Harriston had originally started their ‘gently used' clothing store. From Our Closet to Your Closet, in the former Citizen office, across from the hotel. However, it was soon evident that more square footage was required to display the items, so they acquired the former butcher store, next door to the new Citizen office and renamed it Stuff Mart. “The name was simple and sticks with people,” said Michael. The ‘stuff’ available he describes as brand name articles for the entire family, from infant to adult. “It’s all that expensive stuff that parents are forced to buy their kids at a much r cheaper price.” Having grown up in a family of 10, Hummel said he well understands the need for nice, affordable clothing. Working full-time in Toronto gives him an opportunity to find the brand name items at lower prices. Most of the items at Stuff Mart, which includes names like Guess, Old Navy and Osh Kosh, retail for $ 10 or below. Barbara Jo is going to be running the store which for now will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Graduation HURON EAST V A Municipality of Huron East INTERIM TAXES SUNDAY, JULY 3 Sunday Night Dance from 7:00 - 11:00 pm $10.00 per person.
