By utilizing local professionals with expertise in hospice palliative care (who are currently considered resource professionals or secondary consultants/educators) to facilitate local components of the new CAPCE, they will be enhancing the knowledge and skill of their level practitioner and the secondary consultant/educator level. This also promotes components of the new program at the local level will meet those of the stakeholders for education close to home. The introduction of the evidence­ based knowledge into the program will support (he development of the district, region and provincial care into the program. Incorporating these into the program will promote the transfer of knowledge and skill to practice at the bedside and /assist all organizations in their aspirations to deliver exemplary hospice palliative care. (Jim Brown photo) Two staff members at Huronlea in Brussels have successfully completed the Comprehensive Advanced Palliative Care Education (CAPCE) program. Marlene Richmond-Betts, RN and Susan Heffer, RPN successfully completed the course and received their certificates on Friday. The CAPCE initiative is a new program for regulated health care professionals. CAPCE focuses on the development of hospice palliative care resource professionals in facilities, agencies and communities throughout southwestern On­ tario. CAPCE is sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care through the palliative care initiatives of Ontario and is directed at the primary formal caregiver and resource professional levels of expertise with the expectation the new knowledge and skill will be transferred to practice and applied at Installed Blyth Lions installed their officers for 2005-2006.
