Theresa McDonald-Lee Knox Presbyterian Church Monkton and Cranbrook A couple of weeks ago, I was meeting with several members of the congregation. One woman walked in the door and said her drive over to the church had been “breathtaking!” The sun had been setting and the colours in the west were brilliant. The trees were starting to come out in leaf and the wheat was coming up and there were flowers in all the gardens. Breathtaking! Sometimes we think that breathtaking views are only possible in places like the Rockies or the Grand Canyon or the Sahara Desert or the Great Barrier Reef. Those places are certainly awe-inspiring, but our own surroundings can also be stunning. Each Sunday I drive between Monkton and Cranbrook and when I pay attention, I always find something new and beautiful. The ice crystals on the bare tree branches in the winter, the riot of colour in the fall, the green fields in the summer can all inspire me and remind me of God’s joy in creation. Much of the time we get too busy and forget to look around at the world God created. When we take the time, it can truly be a form of worship. Standing on the shores of Lake Huron, watching a sunset, is the perfect time to say a prayer of praise. Watching the corn sprout and grow is a time to thank God for our A. Cardiff hosts Evening Unit UCW blessings. Listening to the rain fall on thirsty ground is a reminder to offer new life to the needs of our friends and neighbours. When we pay attention to our surroundings, we are honouring God’s creation and God’s continuing care of the earth. How much do we really know about the world under our feet? Lew Welch offers us a challenge, “Step out onto the planet. Draw a circle a hundred feet round. Inside the circle are 300 things nobody understands, and. maybe nobodY S ever really seen. How many can you find?” Sometimes we need to have a child’s eyes to help us see the world new again. A simple walk on the beach or in the woods with a child will reveal so much that we often forget to look at and for. The smallest pieces of creation work together out on seeing nature. Along with incredible creation, I feel a sense of responsibility and obligation. With all the wonders of the world around us, and all of the unknowns around us, we have the chance to protect and guard this creation for future generations. In 50 years, I hope will still be able to church meeting and drive over to the “breathtaking!” and we often miss the whole web of Sunday, June 19 Morning Worship Service - 10 a.m. Evening Worship Service - 7:30 p.m. BLYTH CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH Pastor John Kuperus Hwy. 4, Blyth 523-9233 Wheelchair accessible MELVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BRUSSELS Sunday, June 19 11:00 a.m. - Sunday Morning Service - Sunday School 9:30 a.m. - Sunday Belgrave Service Wheelchair accessible Nursery care available Rev. Mrs. Scott opened the business portion of the meeting with the UCW Purpose followed by the reading of the minutes by Joan Bernard. A detailed treasurer’s report was given by Isabelle Wheeler. Motions were made to give the stewards money towards operating costs, mission and service and Sunday school. A donation was given to Kids Corner as well as to The Daily Bread. It was decided to again pay for half-camp registration for children of church families. June 19 is Joan and Richard Golden’s farewell. The community has been invited and plans are in place. On June 25 Ruth Sauve-Schade’s family is having a birthday party at the church. The next meeting will be Sept. 7 and will be held at the home of Isabelle Wheeler with Laura Barbour in charge of the pro grain. The meeting closed with the UCW benediction. Rene Richmond had bought small vases and with flowers donated by the members made lovely arrangements. Many took two vases and made visits to shut-ins during the afternoon. appreciating God’s that someone walk into a say that his church was CfiriAtian Tdiouwiip HURON CHAPEL EVANGELICAL V MISSIONARY CHURCH j SINGASONGOF Anhnrn.S2fi.1131 A?
