Community extends Sympathy is extended to Barb (Mrs. Joe) Terpstra and family on the death of her mother’s uncle, Ivan Beckler. He was the last relative of his generation making it a sad occasion. He lived in the Dashwood area. On Saturday Grey Central Public School held its annual fun fair and the grand opening of the river dock. Peter Martin had his team of Belgian horses giving rides and Barb Terpstra had her team of ponies there giving rides. Jim Armstrong’s airplane was used by Rapsons to give rides too. Draws, prizes and tours were conducted. Isabel Pearson presented a plaque and a print of the Parliament Buildings in Toronto to the school in memory of her husband George, who was chairman of the board when the school opened. Sympathy is also extended to the family of the late Gordon Shiell who passed away on Wednesday, June 8. He grew up at Silver Corners and went to school in Union. On Tuesday, June 7, area residents enjoyed a delicious pork chop supper in the Monkton Presbyterian Church. The River’s Edge Golf course at David and Karen Smith’s in Cranbrook was a busy spot this past weekend. The ladies of the area were golfing on Friday evening and will continue throughout the summer. On Saturday morning about 20 male descendants of the late Gordon and Elsie Knight followed the guys from a wedding party on the greens. After golfing the Knights went to the farm of Steve Knight for lunch. In the afternoon bocce ball, lawn darts, frisbee/golf, skeet shooting and an ugly hat contest were enjoyed by the to family guys. The day ended with a beef dinner. On Sunday, June 12 about 30 members and spouses of the Brussels Eions Club held the Club’s year end, starling with golf at the River's Edge golf course. The Lions and guests enjoyed a meal prepared by the Brussels United Church Women, served in the Cranbrook Community Centre following the golf. It was Communion Sunday at Cranbrook Presbyterian Church with the guest minister. Rev. John Hoogerwood from Listowcl.
