Blyth masters win
slo-pitch gold medal
Blyth took the gold medal in the master slo-pitch competition of the Huron.
Perth and Middlesex District Games held at various locations in the three
counties during May and June.
Masters men’s slo-pitch was played in Stratford on Friday, with a total of
Five teams competing.
Members of the Blyth team were coach Doug Scrimgeour, Ken Balzer, Ken
Scott. Dave Bourne. John Elliott, Niel Edgar, Gerald Kerr. Dave Martin and
Ken Chynick. All players of the team were 55 years of age and older.
The Blyth team defeated the two teams from Stratford and a team from
Grand Cove (Grand Bend). Because of the heat and humidity on Friday, the
last games were not played.
Blyth earned the gold because they were the only team to win all three
games played.
Scrimgeour said he would like to see more seniors games as there is
everything from swimming and bowling to bridge and hiking.
Not only are the facilities being used, but they are a good source of
volunteers.
Scrimgeour is one of about 22 people who played senior hockey every
Wednesday at the Sifto arena in Goderich. They are trying to keep it going
all year round. Anyone interested can give Scrimgeour a call at 523-9343.
