The Brussels Tigers are at 0-7 after seven games of the Huron County
Fastball League season.
The Tigers were in Ethel on June 3 for a home game against the Atwood
Avengers. The Avengers doubled up the Tigers 10-5.
Jeff Newel) was 3-for-4 at the plate for Brussels with a pair of runs batted
in and a run scored. Corey Campbell had two hits in four at-bats. Scott Cox
and Kelly White were each l-for-2 at the plate.
Doug Conley and Cox were on the mound for the Tigers, allowing 10 runs,
seven earned, on 12 hits and combined for nine strike outs.
In a game played in Brussels on June 1, the Exeter Braves downed the host
team 8-1.
Cox was l-for-2 at the plate and scored the only run for the Tigers. Scott
McCraney was 1-for-l and Doug Shaw had one hit in three at-bats.
Shawn Daw and Conley were on the mound for Brussels, combing for
seven strike outs.
The Goderich Orioles came to town on May 27 and scored a 12-5 decision
over the Tigers.
Matt McCall was 2-for-3 at the plate. He drove in two runs with a home

Josh Beuermann had two hits in four at-bats and Cox was l-for-2 at the
plate. Conley and Jason Kellington were each l-for-3 at the plate.
In a game played in Atwood on May 26, the Tigers were handed a 5-0
setback. Getting the hits for Brussels were Conley, Cox and Shaw.
Shaw was 2-for-3 at the plat eon May 15, but it was not enough as the
Tigers were defeated 5-1 by the home Zurich Rangers.
The Tigers opened the season on May 10 with a 6-2 loss to the Walton
Brewers.
Shaw had two hits in four at-bats while Campbell and Ken Higgins were
each 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Tigers played host to the Zurich Rangers last night, Wednesday. They
are in Goderich on June 21 for an 8:30 p.m. contest against the Orioles
before heading to Belmore on June 23 for a 9 p.m. game against the Junior
Stingers.
Midget girls handed two losses

Champions
The Brussels Midget girls played a
couple of games in the past week.
The team was home this past
Sunday to play Crediton and on June
8, the girls were in St. Marys for a
league contest. Brussels ended up on
the short side of the final score in
both match ups.
In the game in St. Marys, Jenna
Fischer clubbed a lead-off triple and
later scored on a Coral Nicholson
double. Nicholson was stranded at
second.
Candice Ross started on the
mound for Brussels and after getting
the first two batters out quickly, St.
Marys rallied for five runs on a
triple, two doubles and a pair of
walks.
Brussels loaded the bases in the
next at bat on singles by Catrina
Josling, Julie Brown and Rachel
Speers. However, they remained on
base as the next three batters went
down swinging.
Brown took over on the mound in
the second inning and recorded a
pair of strikeouts.
In Brussels’ third inning, Fischer
got on with a single, which was
followed by a double by Lacey
McCall. A long fly ball to right field
by Nicholson was caught to again
leave runners stranded.
In the bottom of the third, Brown
recorded a strikeout and no St.
Marys players crossed the plate.
Emily Elston received a free pass
to first and then scored on back-to-
back singles by Sara McDonald and
Josling.
Brown did not give up any St.
Marys runs in their half of the
inning.
Brussels rallied for two runs in the
top of the fifth inning. A lead-off
triple by Candice McLelland was
followed by a single by Mary
Aitchison. They were brought home
on singles by Amy Bishop and
Fischer to get to within one run of
tying the game. St. Marys scored
two runs in their half of the inning to
increase their advantage.
In the top of the seventh inning,
Brussels had their hopes dashed.
McCall received a walk, then scored
on singles by Nicholson and Elston.
With the bases loaded and none out,
St. Marys completed a triple play to
end the Brussels really.

across the plate in the bottom of the
inning for a final score of St. Marys

Josling started on the mound for
Brussels, giving up four runs on four
bases-on-balls, two hit batters and a
single. McDonald came on in relief,
giving up two runs on two hits and
had three strikeouts.
In their first at-bat, Brussels put

walks and left the bases loaded.
Crediton scored three more runs in
the second on two walks and a
single. The next six batters for
Brussels were outs, resulting in no
Brussels runs.
McDonald took to the mound in
the third inning and shut down
Crediton as she recorded a pair of
strikeouts. In the fourth inning,
McDonald recorded a quick first out,
but then had to be pulled after hitting
her third batter,
the mound and
strikeouts.
The Brussels
alive in their half of the fourth
inning. McDonald walked and then
scored on Katie Aitchison’s home
run to right field. Speers and Bishop
rapped out singles and would score
on a triple by McLelland.
Josling returned to the mound and
after Crediton scored two more runs,
she got into a jam as she loaded the
bases with two out. Nicholson came
to the mound and recorded a strike
out to get out of the inning.
Brussels again rallied in the final
inning. M. Aitchison and Fischer
singled, then both scored on a
McCall double. McDonald and K.
Aitchison both hit RBI singles.
With two out and two on base,
Speers came to the plate and hit a
long fly ball to centrefield that was
caught, dashing any hopes of the
Brussels team.
The final score was Crediton 11,
Brussels 9.
The Houston team won the championship of the Brussels Crusaders 3-pitch tournament held

Twelve teams compete
Twelve teams competed in the
second annual Brussels Crusaders
three-pitch tournament played on the
weekend.
The games were played on the ball
field behind the arena and on the
Optimist Park field.
The Houston team put seven runs
across the plate in the fourth inning
and added three more in the fifth to
claim a 10-0 decision over Team
Pleiter to win the championship of
the tourney, played Sunday
afternoon.
In the game for third place, the
Baillie team edged past Amy Ross’s
team 10-9 to take the third-place
prize money.
In the semi-final, the Houston
team blanked the Baillie team 6-0
and Team Pleiter got past the Amy
Ross team 8-2.
In games played Friday, the C. W.
Brussels U-5
records win
June 8 was as hot as the Brussels
U-5 soccer team, which claimed a
victory.
Hudson Smith scored his first goal
and Brett Stephenson scored the
second. The other team was able to
get one by the Brussels goalie,
Sophie’ Cardiff. The game ended
early with some refreshing cold
popsicles, thanks to the coaches and
parents.
Fischer Farm Team defeated Gina
Fischer 8-3, the Houston team
downed the Baillie team 3-1 and the
Nuts and Sluts team edged past T-
Dogs 15-14.
