(Jim Brown photo) Blyth Squirts ‘bomb ’ Londesboro The Blyth Squirt ball team was the ’bomb’ at their game in Londesborough on May 30. They rose to a victory of 28-4. Homeruns were scored by Cody Ducharme, Tyler Black and Collin Whitfield. Grant Sparling hit a grand slam to bring home Conner Prescott, Raven Phalen and Black. Great pitching was done by Kirby Cook, Adam Cronin and Black. Later last week the team another good game, coming had out ahead of Brussels. Carly Whitfield and Raven Phalen were the number-one batters for great effort and determination. The team effort was definitely there in the pitching department. Cronin, Tyler Black, Matt Chalmers and Conner Prescott all did a great job getting the ball right across the plate. Ducharme had a great game with an amazing catch at shortstop and three homeruns. Sparling had yet another grand slam. U-7 III records win The Brussels U-7 Team III won its first game of the season last week as they played against Team IV. It was a great game as both sides played awesome defence and showed tremendous improvement in their teamwork abilities. Goals were scored by Faith Sebastian and Seth Nichol. Assists were by Darien Fritz, Cody Rathwell, Thalen Martin, Nichol, and Sebastian. Goalie Derrick Waechter enjoyed the game by hanging from the net, and saving the occasional shot. Motocross at Walton this weekend Motocross racing action returns to Walton this Saturday and Sunday June 11 and 12. Over 5,000 racers and fans are expected to come out for this annua) tradition which has taken place rain or shine since 1972. This two-wheel motorsport double header promises fast and furious competition as it is a critical juncture for the race season. This event is part of the qualifying race series which makes racers eligible to compete in the Grand National Championship in Walton Aug. 16-21. As a result amateurs from across the province and neighbouring states pour in to take a shot at clinching a berth in the GNC. This is also the pivotal fifth event of seven rounds of the Motovan.com Ontario Provincial Championship which has just concluded a sweaty weekend in Essex County this past Sunday June 5 in Wheatley. The series has traveled the breadth KTM’s Pierce Honda’s Kyle Keast, Jay Burke, Yamaha’s Chuck Mesley and Saarits not only have of the province to Sand-de-lee just outside Ottawa. Chamberlain, Ryan Gauld, Trevor Hall, Suzuki’s Joel to deal with each other to gain a title but also have to fend off the youngsters like Kyle Thompson, Bobby Thompson, Kyle Snelgrove and Ryan McCellan. Some local series riders to watch for are: Lee Gulliver, Wroxeter, 19 in 125 Pro; Mackenzie Machan, Monkton, first and Lucas Godkin, Walton, third in 50cc - 4 To 6, Mitchell Godkin, Walton, second in 50cc - 7 To 8: Josh Shea, Seaforth, Tyler Listman, Seaforth, 26th, Scott Vande Borne, Seaforth, 12th; and Brent Godkin, 13th, 80cc - 12 To 16. 125 Beginner and GP Beginner is lead by Scott Godkin, Staffa and includes Greg Bowers, Walton. Quads will be racing Saturday so watch for James Bank, Ethel and Andrew McDonald,Walton. For some pro riders like Micheal Willard of Ohio who rides for the KIM Canada team it is an opportunity to pre-ride the track in preparation for the national. Kawasaki Canada and one of their premier dealers, Two Wheel Motorsports, have thrown their full support behind this event to bring as many visitors to Huron East as possible. Full coverage by all the national motocross magazines is a further indication of the status of this event and the level of competition and quality of presentation. The close competition and escalating skill level is giving this series a national reputation for rider development and exciting entertainment. When you set the stage with one of Canada’s most demanding tracks you have a don’t-miss spectacle - • , «Brussels Midgets outlast Listowel On Monday, May 30 the Brussels Midget girls were on the road playing Listowel. Brussels started in the first, and scored four runs. A lead-off double by Jenna Fischer followed by singles from Coral Nicholson, Emily Elston, Catrina Josling and Julie Brown got the squad started. Josling started on the mound for Brussels allowing three runs on two hits and six walks. Brussels offence would take over in the second. Candice Ross and Ashley Keffer were put on base by hit pitches. Doubles by Lacey McCall, Josling and Elston followed by a single from Nicholson would score seven more Brussels runs. Brown took over pitching duty in the second and closed down Listowel with three strikeouts. Brussels came out swinging in the third. Singles by McCall, Josling and Katie Aitchison, triples from Fischer and Nicholson and a homerun by Elston would score seven more Brussels runs. Brown shut down the Listowel squad in the third with two strikeouts. It was a scoreless fourth for Brussels. Candice Ross went to the mound for Brussels for the final inning. Listowel would score seven runs on five walks, one strikeout and three errors. The final score was Brussels', 18, Listowel, 10. Brussels next home game is Sunday, June 12 at 8 p.m. against Credifon. U-7 teams play to draw The two U-7 teams in Brussels minor soccer met on May 31, and played to a 2-2 draw. Team I opened the scoring with a great goal by Tyler Cronin. Logan Kellington made many saves in the Team II net, but it was not enough as Patrick Franken scored to give Team I a 2-0 lead. Team I goalkeeper Eric Van Nes was able to maintain the 2-0 advantage as he stopped Dawson Peachey on a break away. Late in the first half. Carlie Ducharme was able to slip one past the Team I keeper as Team II cut the lead in half. Ducharme added a second marker in the second half to tie the contest at two. Team Ils Austin Johnston, Peachey, Justin Ford and Dean Scarrow played well defensively in the second half.
