The next meeting will be held in Brussels al the United Church on June 23 at 8 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. there is a walk around the Brussels Dam. • The speaker is John Rutledge. On Sept. 22 there is a tour of the Goderich Gaol at 7 p.m. and a meeting in the Huron County Museum at 8 p.m. The speaker is Tony Hopkins with the topic. The Gaol; New-Old Documents found. Historical Society hears history of Westfield church The annual meeting of the Huron County Historical Society was held on May 26 at 8 p.m. at the Westfield Fellowship Hour Church. President, welcomed Secretary, read the introduced w ho asked all to join her in singing the hymn. Faith Of Our Fathers, then presented the topic. Westfield Church history 1889-2005. Westfield Church had its birth as far back as 1854. when n was called Hoover s Church. Services were held in the log schoolhouse, built in 1856. with a minister. In 1870 a erected. From was a mission but in 1879 it was linked with Donnybrook and Auburn to form the Auburn circuit. At this time it was decided to build a new' church. Sheds were also built to accommodate the large number of horses and carriages. In 1920 alter the* First World War three memorial windows were placed in the church in memory of William Buchanan. Ivan Wightman and Russel Woods, w'ho paid the supreme sacrifice during the On June 29. 1969 the service of the Westfield Church was held. The building could not be sold as it stood on land belonging to Jasper Snell. Later in 1969 he donated the church and land to the Westfied Fellowship Hour which began on July 20. 1969 and is an independent interdenominational fellowship group. The Westfield Fellowship Hour has been operating for 36 years. Many renovations and redecorating havej?een done. To close everyone sang the hymn. What a Friend. A special thank you was given to Elaine Snell who did a written history of the Westfield Church 1889-2005. Mary and Don Vair sang a duet. On A Hill Far Away. Don played the organ for the duet and also before the meeting. Prior to the meeting at the church anyone who wished could walk around the Westfield Cemetery, the earliest burial here was in 1865 and the last was in 1948. Retiring officers, Jean Fraser (membership and publicity) and Rhea Hamilton-Seeger (secretary) were presented with gifts of appreciation for their work in the Huron County Historical Society.
