Presbyterial holds rally
Let’s Go Camping was the theme
of the Huron-Perth Presbyterial
spring rally held at Camp Kintail,
north of Goderich.
Sixty-nine women were
welcomed by vice-president Bernice
Richards. Jan MacGinnis gave a
prayer for one of the members
undergoing an operation that day.
Camp Ki mail’s executive director
Rev. Gwen Brown and director
Graham Gould welcomed all to the
camp and spoke of the layout and
activities.
President Ina McMillan, along
with three other members, gave the
highlights of the Synodical Society
of Southwestern Ontario Women’s
Missionary Society which was held
in Woodstock in April.
Lois Home, literature secretary,
gave the book review and had
several books and supplies for sale.
Rev. Brown introduced her staff
who entertained with a lively sing
song. The members divided into
groups to tour the campsite, go
down to the beach or make a craft.
A turkey dinner was prepared and
served by the camp cook and the
staff.
Listowel had the evening vespers
and Knox, Stratford, the courtesy
remarks. Bernice Richards closed
the meeting with prayer.
The fall rally will be held on Sept.

Roofing repairs at four more
schools were approved by trustees
on Tuesday, May 24, as the Avon
Maitland District School Board
continued to use up its portion of the
provincial government’s recently-
announced Good Places to Learn
funding initiative.
Smith Peat Roofing submitted the
successful low bid for three of the
four tendered contracts: Sprucedale
Public School in Shakespeare,
Stratford Central Secondary School
and Stratford Northwestern
Secondary School. The contract for
the other project — North Easthope
Public School near Amulree — was
awarded to Wm. Green Roofing.
“We have $1,060,000 in roofing
tenders for your approval tonight,’’
explained business superintendent
Janet Baird-Jackson, prior to the
trustee vote.
At North Easthope, resurfacing
will take place over the entire roof,
at an approximate cost of $282,000.
At Sprucedale, meanwhile, the
portion above the entranceway was
excluded from the contract but the
rest of the roof will be repaired. The
projected cost there is about
$258,000.
Only a portion of each secondary
school roof will be repaired. At
Stratford Central, part of the 1958
wing and the gymnasium will be
resurfaced, at an approximate cost
of $243,000.
And at Northwestern, the two-
storey section above the school’s
offices will be repaired, costing
about $277,000.
All work is expected to be carried
out over the summer months.
