Lightning gets
past Bayfield
The third game of the season had
the Blyth Lightning U-ll soccer
team travel to Bayfield Arena, on
May 24.
This is Bayfield’s first year in this
league. Courtney Monk was the
Lightning’s game captain.
During the first half of the game,
Wyatt Bearss dug the ball away from
Bayfield and passed it to Derek
DeBoer. DeBoer game a hard kick to
put the ball in the net and place Blyth
on the scoreboard.
Soon after the half-time break,
DeBoer passed the ball to Murray
Dale. Dale got the ball around
several Bayfield players before
heading to the net to score on a
breakaway to give Blyth a 2-0
lead.
The third and final goal of the
game occurred after DeBoer headed
the ball to forward Marc Dery who
kicked it into the net.
Blyth’s goaltender Leendert
Vandorp earned a shut-out for the
night. The final score was 3-0 for the
Lightning.
The Lightning’s second game of
the season was against Wingham
Remax, on May 17 at home.
Jeanette Schramm, who plays
defence for Blyth, was the evening’s
game captain.
During the first half a Wingham
player had a hand ball in the crease,
so Dale took the penalty shot. Dale
was successful and scored the first
goal for Blyth.
Vandorp made some great saves
and Blyth kept their 1-0 lead until
halftime.
Dale took on the goalkeeper
position for the second half of the
game. DeBoer made a pass to
Kathryn Peach for Blyth’s second
goal.
With only a few minutes left in the
game, Wingham scored a goal. The
game ended in a 2- 1 victory for
Blyth.
The Lightning is coached by
Kerissa and Herb Van Amers-
foort.
It was time for the little ones to prove their game as a soccer
