OFSSAA bound
Ami Schimanski of .Brussels, a
Grade 9 student at F. E. Madill
Secondary School in Wingham, has
advanced to the OFSSAA track and
field championships to be held in
Windsor this weekend.
At the OFSSAA West Regionals
held this past weekend in Sarnia,
Schimanski placed fourth in the
midget girls discus with a toss of
over 25 metres.
At the WOSSAA championship,
held the week before at the
University of Western Ontario in
London, Schimanski had a throw of
26.54 metres to earn first place.
Schimanski was one of four
Brussels-area athletes and two
Blyth-area athletes to represent
Madill at the OFSSAA West
Regionals.
Competing from Brussels were
Michelle Cousins in the 400 metres,
Chris Corbett in the triple jump and
Adam Corbett in the long jump and
high jump.
Blyth-area competitors were
Adam Young and Kerissa Van
Amersfoort.

Area elementary schools have
held their track and field meets. The
results of those meets have been
made available.
GREY CENTRAL
Grey Central School held its track
and field meet last Friday at the
school.
Top honours in the PeeWee girls
division went to Miranda Kuepfer,
first and Heidi Penelton, second.
Winners in the PeeWee boys
division were Anthony Lichty, first
and Shea McLean, second.
Junior girls winners were Emily
Prior, first, and Holly Barlow,
second.
Junior boys winners were Dustin
Lichty, first, and Roy Van Brugge,
second.
Winners in the Intermediate girls
division were Robyn Phillips, first,
and Robin Rosentreter, second.
Winners in the Intermediate boys
division were Greg Kuepfer, first,
and Luke Penelton, second.
Lynn Boyer was first in the Senior
girls division, with Danica Zwep and
Monique Kehoe tied for second.
Taylor Prior took top honours in the
Senior boys division, with Jordan
Atkinson being the runner-up.
BLYTH PUBLIC
Blyth Squirts
win opener
Thursday, May 27 was the season
opener for the Blyth Squirts. They
had a great start to the season with a
20-3 win against Belgrave.
Triples during the game went out
to Josh Hay, Kayla Black and Grant
Sparling. Cody Ducharme got a
double. It was great team effort with
great results. Coach is Ron
Vercruyssen.

played, with triess scored by Patrick

Kayla Black, first; Brooklyn
Vercrussyen and Kathryn Peach,
second and Michele Studhalter,
third.
The Midget boys’ winners were
Nick Brandon, first; Jordan Button,
second and Nathan Plunkett, third.
The Junior girls’ winners were
Alex Raynard, first; Alix Sholdice,
second and Laura Peach, third.
Winning the Junior boys’ division
were Grant Sparling, first; Collin
Whitfield, second and Tyler Black,
third.
Taking top honours in the
Intermediate girls’ division were
Laura Youngblut, first; Hayley
Pavao, second and Sadie Pavao and
Amy Root, third.
The Junior boys’ winners were
Colin Bokhout, first; Kurtis
Kolkman, second and Jordan Rinn,
third.
Topping the Senior girls’ division
were Danaka Bailey, first; Jessica
Sparling, second and Tasha
Hubbard, third.
The Senior boys’ winners were
Aaron Gross, first; Ken Plunkett,
second and Brett Courtney, third.
EAST WAWANOSH
East Wawanosh school’s track and
field meet was held in mid-May.
The top three for Mite girls were
Megan Stute, Ashley Higgins and
Emily Meier. The top three Mite
boys were Arden Coultes, Dustin
Pennington and Curtis Raynard.
The three top finishers in the Tyke
girls were Tristin Cook, Kaitlyn
Michie and Stacey Hallahan. The top
three for the boys were Brandon
Whitfield, Spencer Stevenson and
Dallas Ruff Robertson.
The top three finishers for
Stratford Northwestern saw St.
Anne’s win by an overpowering
score of 31-5. The Eagles played a
phenomenal team game, supporting
each other in all areas of the field.
The forwards were strong in all areas
and the backs were able to play to
their potential and scored at will.
PeeWee girls were Carley Whitfield,
Heidi Raynard and Caroline
McDowell. The three top PeeWee
boys were Ryan Drabiuk, Evan
Wesselink and Coddy Keddy.
Porsche Bissionette, Loretta
Thompson and Brittany Weber were
the top three finishers for the Junior
girls. Tyler Stevenson, Trevor
Raynard and Matthew Hallahan
were the top three finishers for the
Junior boys.
The top three finishers for the
Intermediate girls were Nicole
Robinson, Ellen Cook and Alicia
Appleby. The three top Intermediate
boys were Dalton Delisle, Brandon
Chaffe and Jamie Guy.

the top 12 teams in Ontario for
OFSAA A/AA rugby to be held in
Belleville on June 6-8.
