UCW topic
The Blyth United Church Women
met in the church parlour May 26 at
7:30 p.m.
Mrs. Hakkers gave the devotions.
Emily Phillips did the study. She
spoke on the Women’s Shelter and
Second Stage Housing in Huron
County.
These women are subject to being
controlled.^ One in four is abused.
The law has been changed so the
police can lay charges.
Eighty per cent of the funding is
from the government. The rest has to
be raised.
When Mrs. Phillips was 16 she
recalled that was a strange lady at
the breakfast table. Her husband had
the home and children. The mother
could only see her children at the
schoolground with her minister.
The UCW is stocking the
refrigerator in the manse and giving
the new minister food gift
certificates.
The catering committee is buying
two steam tables.
Sharon Bromley served lunch.
Camp Experience is June 6 at
Camp Menesetung. Registration is at
9:30 a.m.

Sorry,
our
mistake
In last week’s Citizen, Thelma
Johnston and Jessica Sparling were
featured in a photo at a recent
"meeting of Blyth Legion Branch
420. Jessica was presenting the
cheque however, not receiving it.
Before she travelled to the
provincial speaking competition in
Kingston, the Ontario (Legion)
Command sent Jessica $300 for
expenses. While making the
presentation, Jessica told the
Legion and Auxiliary members that
she kept the prize money she won
along the way, but wanted to donate
the expense money to the Blyth
Legion in appreciation for their
support. The Citizen apologizes for
the error.

Tom Dunbar welcomed everyone
to church in the absence of Rev.
Eugen Bannerman.
Kurt Lentz favoured the
congregation with a solo, O Lord,
You're Beautiful.
The children gathered at the front
of the church during the singing of
Arky, Arky, for their story time.
The lectionary reading was
Genesis 6: 9-22, 7: 24 and 8: 14-19.
The responsive psalm was Psalm 46,
led by Ollie Craig.
Tom Dunbar's message to the
adults was Life Aboard the Ark. He
asked, “Was there ever a time you
can't remember knowing the story
of Noah and the Ark?”
Building the ark. stocking it with
supplies and gathering two of every
creature was no simple task, he
noted. God must have helped out
during the stay on the ark to keep
peace.
The lessons to be learned from
this are love, respect, tolerance and
also not to judge.
June 5 is the Sunday school
service at Camp Menesetung.
