Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Fed steers, heifers sell on steady market Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending May 20 were 3.221 head of cattle. 577 lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed steers and heifers sold on a steady market. Choice steers and heifers sold $88 to $93 with sales to $100. Second- cut steers and heifers sold $83 to $87. The cows sold actively at prices $2 to $3 higher. On Thursday the veal sold on a lower demand with easier prices. The lambs sold actively on a strong demand with prices $5 to $10 high­ er. On Friday all weights and class­ es of stockers sold at prices $2 higher. There were 778 steers on offer. John B. Martin. Gadshill. consigned eight blonde steers averaging 1,265 lbs. which sold for $97.50. His overall offering of eleven steers averaged 1.288 lbs. selling for an average price of $95.06. Five steers consigned by Enoch Wideman, Wallenstein, averaged 1.377 lbs. which sold for an average price of $89.26 with his top blonde steer weighing 1.370 lbs. selling for $97. Jim Howatt. Londesborough, consigned four limousin steers averaging 1.525 lbs. which sold for $96.25. His overall offering of nine steers averaged 1.449 lbs. selling Putting pork on your fork It was a night of learning and entertainment at the Brussels arena May 17 as the Brussels Agricultural Society and Ontario Pork presented a night of cooking and tasting. Bruce Thompson, Ontario Pork’s chef at large was educat­ ed in the United Kingdom and did his culinary apprentice­ ship in Paris. His work experience at various levels has taken place in London, England, Paris, Cote d’Azur and Toronto. He has a BSc from Ryerson and is a culinary pro­ fessor emeritus. Mount Forest, averaged 1,507 lbs. which sold for an average price of $87.60 with her top two limousin steers averaging 1.540 lbs. selling for $95.
