season against Wingham Remax, on May 17.
Jeanette Schramm, who plays defence for Blyth, was the evening’s game
captain.
During the first half of the game a Wingham player had a hand ball in the

Bly th U-13 soccer teams luck off season
Blyth U-13 or Mosquito soccer is
underway for the 2005 season.
Sparling Field hosted a game at
which both Blyth co-ed U-13 teams
played against each other on
Thursday, May 12. Blyth II has
called their team the Blyth Flames.
The Flames game captain was
defense Jason Young with forward
Laura Peach as co-captain.
Blyth I came out strong and scored
the first goal of the game. Flames
goalkeeper, Jacob Vandorp stepped
over the 18 yard line with the ball
and a handball was called. This gave
Blyth I a successful scoring
opportunity and a 2-0 lead by the end
of first halt.
The Flames were not playing their
positions to the best of their ability
and three more goals were scored by
Blyth I during the second half.
The Flames were only able to get
one goal during the second half.
Forward, Brent Drost had a
breakaway and the goalie stopped
his first attempt to score. The keeper
fumbled the ball and Drost tapped
the ball into the net.
It was a very disappointing game
for the Flames, with a loss of 5-1
against Blyth I.
On May 19. the Blyth Flames
travelled to Bayfield to play their
second game of the season Defense,
Kelly MacDonald was game captain
and forward; Emily Nicholson was
co-captain.
Blyth’s halfTack Jacob Nonkes
passed the ball to forward Brent
Drost for the first goal of the game.
Bayfield scored two nice goals
before the whistle blew to signal half
time.
During the second half of the
game, forward Tanner Memer passed
the ball to Drost for a goal to tie up
the score 2-2. Blyth was on a roll and
Drost scored another goal after a nice
pass from forward Laura Peach.
There were only minutes left in
the game and Blyth worked hard to
keep Bayfield away from their net.
Unfortunately, Bayfield scored to tie
up the game 3-3.
Coaches Mary Ann Drost and
Erika Sturzenegger were very
pleased with the improvements each
player made between the first and
second game.
“The players put forth their best
efforts, played their positions and
made some great plays and passes
throughout the game,” said Mary Ann
Drost.
