In a world of broken promises ‘trust in God’
I think spring has finally come!
(Boy, Fran was not any more
reliable than that groundhog this
year and to think 1 suggested
elevating her to celebrity status!
Who can you trust?)
It does seem that trust is a hard
commodity to lay your hands on

these days. You pick up the phone
and who is on the other end? Some
salesman or telemarketer who has
the best possible deal you can
imagine and if you want to cash in
on it, you have to do it “right now”.
What is the old maxim? “If it is
too good to be true it usually is.”
And when it comes to the deals of
mankind this is often the case but
the good news of the Gospel is that
when it comes to God, the deal is A-
OK!
Jesus said in John I4:l, “Do not
let your hearts be troubled. Trust in
God; trust also in Me.”
The Lord was speaking to
disciples were would soon
experience the death of their
Master. They would live through a
time in their lives where hope
would be shattered and dreams
would be crushed.
When our world falls apart, when
situations and circumstances
overwhelm and bring despair, trust
is shaken and hope seems distant.
The promises of Jesus to His
disciples was such that they did not
understand and for us it is often the
same. It was not until after He
resurrected did they finally realize
that Jesus kept His Word as He
appeared among them in the Upper
Room and said “Peace be with
you.”
When Jesus left thiszworld to
return to the Father He gave to His
followers a promise that can be
trusted. “And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age."
And the promise that He left is
for you and me.
When darkness moves in, when
the situations of life overwhelm, the
Lord is present and His promise is
true for His Word remains and He
can be trusted right to the very end.
So in a world where promises are
so easily broken and the pain that
accompanies them is so very real,
hear the words of Jesus, “Trust in
God; trust also in Me”. You won't
be disappointed!
