AUBURN
Auburn held its annual community
yard sale this weekend with everyone
out and about to get the best bargain.
People were crisscrossing the streets
early and by 11:30 a.m. most had
called it a day. Lots of treasures were
being hauled away to individuals’
homes and, I am told, many shoppers
with the bargain of the year. I for one
brought home a treasure this week
from an auction sale and if I don’t
find a spot in my house soon, you
will find it in a yard sale later this
summer.
The Auburn Lions Club fed over
300 people Saturday morning. This is
reported to be one of the largest
crowds ever. There was great
teamwork feeding everyone before
they headed out for their bargain
hunting. For five bucks I got eggs,
home-fries, sausage, toast, pancakes
(with syrup), juice, coffee - and
always a funny story from Greg Park.
Auburn and area residents wish
Jack Armstrong a speedy recovery.
He is currently in Clinton hospital
with reports saying he is improving.

Bernice Gross visited Marianne
Sweeney in Tavistock this week.
Marianne is wife of the late Rev. Ron
Sweeney, a minister in Auburn during
the late 1950s. Marianne especially
asked to be remembered to all her
many friends in Auburn.

88th birthday at the home of Greg

The Knox United Church greeters
this week were Bob and Shelley
Worsell. Rev. Pat Cook’s message
was Family Relationships. In
honour of the special Sunday, each
of the Sunday school children
presented every woman in the
congregation with a flower.
The junior choir sang a song
honouring their mothers. Each verse
was specially created to honour the
mother of a choir member. Hats off
to Shelley Worsell for her creative
input in helping the children with
this wonderful idea.

Graham Worsell is home for the
summer after studying political
science at the University of Guelph.
He is working at Woodlands Golf
Course for the summer and will
return to university for his last term
of study in the fall.
Dorothy Grange of Huronview
spent Mother’s Day visiting with
family at the home of Bob and
Shelley Worsell. She was most
pleased to be able to see eight of her
nine great-grandchildren all playing
together. There were lots of adults to
chase after them while Great
Grandma enjoyed the chaos. Auntie
Shelley is glad she didn’t sell the toys
at the yard sale on Saturday!
A piano recital showcasing the
talents of Barb Bosman’s students
was held May 2, at 7 p.m. at
Huronview. The residents, along with
parents, friends and relatives, were all
able to take in the evening event. A
great idea and one I am sure the
residents were particularly
appreciative of. Those highlighting
their talents included, Shelsie and
Shawna Popp, Joscelin Andrews,
Kelly Cooke, Monica and Michelle
Bakelaar.
The Knox Bible Study group held
is gathering at Maureen Bean’s home
on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. A birthday
cake followed their study session,
honouring two Auburn residents
Bernice Anderson and Grace
Cartwright. Grace is also known as
Minnie. A lovely happy birthday to
both of you.
A prized turkey was shot by
Johnathon McDowell on Wednesday,
May 5. The game was brought down
in East Wawanosh and weighed in at
22 pounds. Johnathon is touted as the
“next generation of hunters’’ by proud
grandpa Gerald.
