Obituaries Bargains can be dangerous DORIS ELECTA MICHIE Mrs. Doris Michie of Wingham passed away at Braemar Retirement Centre on Monday, April 25, 2005. She was 90. The former Doris Brown was the beloved wife of George C. Michie of Wingham and the late Dr. Murray MacLennan who predeceased her in 1968. She was the dear mother of Sandra and Gilbert Tourigny of Calgary, Brenda and Donald Whitfield of Sault Ste. Marie and Norman and Cathy MacLennan of Listowel. She was the sister of Allene and Eldon Bradley of Lucknow. Mrs. Michie is also survived by George’s family Ruth and Jim Baker of London and Lloyd and Nancy Michie of Morris Twp. and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Estelle (Campbell) Brown. “The warmth of a mother’s love puts such joy into family living. Our family has been so fortunate to have you at its heart. ” Visitation was at the McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Saturday, April 29 from 6 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was at Wingham United Church on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Wayne B. Beamer officiated. Interment was in Ripley Cemetery, Ripley. Order of Eastern Star service was held in the funeral home on Saturday at 6 p.m. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. MARIE KATHERINE PULFER Marie (Rose) Pulfer of Brussels, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at Wingham and District Hospital. Born in Toronto on Dec. 7, 1936, Marie was in her 69th year. Marie was the daughter of Madeline Rose of Brussels and her late father George and will be sadly missed by her son Rick Pulfer and his wife Carol of Aurora. She was the loving grandmother of Trista and Ashley and great-grandmother of Kennedy Elizabeth. Mrs. Pulfer was the dear sister of Steve Rose of Mississauga, Donald Rose and his companion Claudia Temple of Airdrie. Alberta, Larry Rose and his wife Barb of Brussels, Roy Rose and his wife Shirley of Mississauga, Ken R jse and his wife Carol of Mississauga, and Linda Rose and her husband Neil Wilson of Chatham. Cremation has taken place. Friends were joined by the family at Brussels United Church on Sunday, May 1 at 1 p.m. for a time of remembering and celebrating Marie’s life. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA), 405 Park Avenue East, Chatham, ON, N7M 3W4. However, these bargains could be dangerous. Every year in Canada, more than 5,000 children under the age of five are injured from using children’s products that are unsafe. Some older products have caused deaths and have been taken off the market, but these dangerous products can still be found at garage sales. Be careful about used products when planning your garage sale. Everyone holding a garage sale is legally responsible for ensuring that products sold, whether new or used are safe and meet safety standards. It is illegal to sell the following products if safety standards are not being met: cribs and cradles, car seats and booster seats, strollers, playpens and baby gates, children’s Living life. Not all products are regulated, including baby walkers, children’s clothing with drawstrings, bunk beds, and baby bath seats. These unregulated products could pose a hazard to children. Also, it is important to only sell items that are in good condition. To ensure that you only handle safe products, be well informed; know which products are regulated and ensure that all safety standards are met. Follow these guidelines to protect yourself and your children from garage sale purchases: • Know where the product was originally purchased. • Do not sell or purchase products that have been recalled or that won’t meet safety standards. • Ensure all parts are present, in good repair, and functioning properly. • Make sure assembly instructions and/or instructions for use are provided. • If you are unsure whether a product is safe, or whether it complies with the legislation, don’t sell it and don't give it away. Destroy it and then throw it away.
