Habitat for Humanity Huron
Habitat for Humanity Huron
County (HFH HC) has been working
hard in order to secure the funds
necessary for their first house,
scheduled to be built this fall in
Clinton.
HFH HC is planning a fundraising
walkathon, Walk for Hope on June 4
in Goderich. The walk will begin
Saturday morning at Knox
Presbyterian Church and it is hoped
that $10,000 will be raised at this
event.
“This is only a portion of what we
will need if we are to begin building
this fall,” explained Paul Dyck, HFH
HC chair. “We will need the support
of people throughout Huron County
if we are to be successful.”
donations to our walkers.”
A committee made up of board
members of HFH HC is working hard
to generate interest in the event and
ensure that it will be successful.
Students from local high schools in
Exeter, Clinton and Goderich have
expressed interest in participating in
the event. Mallette says, “I hope we
can get as many students from all
grades involved as possible, both
high schools and public schools. In
fact, we need people of all ages, not
just students, if we are going to be
successful.”
Participation in the event by high
school students will count towards
community service hours. a
requirement for graduation. “The
energy and enthusiasm that students
bring is always a welcome addition to
an event like this. “ says Mallette.
HFH HC seeks to involve people of
all ages and from all over Huron
County to come together for a cause
that is committed to providing
affordable housing
communities.

Habitat for Humanity is a non
profit, independent housing program
made up of local affiliates that are
locally managed. Habitat * for
Humanity Huron County is entirely
operated by volunteers. Habitat
provides a “hand up, not a hand out”
by selling homes to qualified families
through “sweat equity” and non
interest mortgages.
Each local chapter must meet the
strict guidelines of Habitat for
Humanity Canada. Started in 1976 in
the United States, Habitat for
Humanity now enjoys success in 87
countries around the globe. Habitat
came to Canada in 1985 and thus far
has built over 600 homes.

The walkathon has attracted
widespread attention and the
response has been relatively positive
to this point. However, additional
walkers are needed if the targets are
to be reached.
Chuck Mallette, who is chairing
the group of organizers, states
“Things are pretty good, but never so
good they can’t be better. We need
more participants in this event and
