Jean Plaetzer, president, conducted the business meeting and reported on the spring rally. The fall rally will be Oct. 20. in Belgrave. Kay Hesselwood, Bill Craig and Ethel Adams were draw winners. Jean Nethery requested payment for the Seniors’ June bus trip by mid­ May. Arnold Bruce and Ethel Adams delighted the group with an old-time concert. New members are always welcome at Blyth Swinging Seniors. Legion euchre results for April 25 are: high, Dorothy Dalton, 81, Jane Giousher, 73; lone hands, Delores Howatt, four, Wilmer Giousher, four: low. Dorothy Carter, 46, Edith Giousher. 48; door prize. Betty Archambault; share-the-wealth. Marie Bromley and Darrell Wood. This was the last euchre for the season. Happy birthday to Gladys Caldwell of Blyth and Nancy Daer of Wingham who both celebrate on May 5. Blyth Scouts and third-year Cubs attended the 21st Annual Can-Am Friendship Camporee at Camp Attawandaron near Thedford. While there they tried throwing tomahawks, target shooting with BB guns, archery, rock climbing, rappelling and zipline. They had lots of fun and came home very tired. About 400 attended the camp from Michigan, Ohio and Ontario west of Toronto. Bodie and Ollie Craig, Don and Marilyn Craig of Blyth visited Sunday with Bodie and Don’s sister and her husband, Joye and Murray Kane of Fullarton. Also visiting were cousins John and Marie Parker of Toronto, Margaret Townsend of London and Murray and Laura Townsend and girls of Arva. Dr. Rudy and Mrs. Joan Leibold visited friends in Blyth on Sunday and attended Blyth United Church. Many members of the Jackson family were home and attended Blyth United Church for a tribute to Dr. Ken Jackson, Blyth’s oldest resident. On the occasion of World Tai Chi and Arthritis day, Blyth Tai Chi Club welcomed visitors from Cranbrook. Holmesville, Wingham and Blyth to their demonstration of tai chi for arthritis and tai chi for diabetes. This was held on the courtyard at Memorial Hall on Saturday. April 30. These events take place at 10 a.m. local time around the world on the last Saturday of each April. Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, May 1 were Judy Gleave and Myrtle Badley. Ushers were Judy Gleave. Myrtle Badley, Pat Bernard and Rob Mason. The children gathered at the front of the church during the singing of Para, Para, Pitter Pat. Rev. They don't see the caring and helpful people. When someone dies, there are many tributes of caring in the way of food brought to the home and other acts of kindness. When a farmer takes sick, his neighbours get together and help with his farming. Huron Bruce PCs to choose candidate Huron-Bruce Conservatives are going to be busy this coming Saturday. May 7 as they meet in Blyth to choose their candidate for the upcoming Federal Election. There are currently at least four candidates on the slate seeking the nomination. “We are extremely excited about having strong Conservatives hoping to be our next candidate”, states Mark Beaven, chair of the Nomination Committee. “1 believe it is a sign of the anger towards the Liberals that we have such a hotly contested race.” The list of candidates seeking the nomination thus far are: Harry DenHaan of Seaforth, Ralph Kreutzwiser of Wingham, Ben Lobb of Clinton, and Jason Rogers of Mildmay. The nomination event promises to be full day with the official start being 1 p.m. at the Blyth and District Community Centre. “The meeting starts with all the candidate speeches and then voting starts”, explains Beaven. “With this many candidates we are anticipating it to go to more than one ballot and so to keep everyone entertained during the ballots we have a jazz Congratulations on your promotion band lined up.” Individuals that held a Federal Conservative membership on April 23 are eligible to vote. Although the meeting does not officially start until 1 p.m., members are urged to arrive early to ease in the registration process.
