God is So Good, anthem title FROM LONDESBORO Laughter theme at The late April storm resulted in a smaller than usual congregation at Londesborough United Church on Sunday. God Is So Good was the title of the anthem offered by the senior choir that morning. A minute for missions, read by Brenda Radford, spoke about an in between place, Treasures in Richmond Hill, Ontario. This store provides life, social and vocational help/training for persons struggling to reintegrate with society after time spent in mental institutions. This important location is supported through donations to the United Church Mission and Service fund. Keep the Faith was the theme of Rev. Pat Cook’s message for the service. Responsive Psalm 31 is a prayer of praise to God by David. In the Gospel of John 14: 1-14 Jesus comforts His disciples about His impending return to heaven and tells them how they may eventually follow Him. One of the treasures children sometimes collect are stones and Rev. Pat had brought along a number of different stones to show the children when they gathered at the front. Each stone was unique somehow - shape, size, colour, etc., just like children. She told the young folk that stones are mentioned in the Bible as well. Jesus is referred to as the cornerstone of faith. Just as stones have a use in God’s world, so do the children who need to share what is special about themselves. A hymn The Church Is Wherever God’s People Are Gathered speaks to Christians about how to share faith with others. Christ as the cornerstone gives them a foundation upon which to build. He, as a living stone, is an example for others to be a living stone 24/7. Rev. Cook noted that as God loves us from birth to eternity, we must be ready to offer unconditional love at home, in the community and beyond. The senior choir will gather for practice at 10 a.m. on May 1. There will be a short session meeting following the morning service on May 1. April 29 and 30 are the last two days to have your family picture taken for inclusion in the new church photo directory. If you haven’t booked a time please call Lynda Horbanuik at 482-7585. -HEALTH ON THE HILL- Seaforth Community Hospital Site: Member of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance UCW Laughter Is The Language Of The Heart, was the theme for the time of meditation and program at the April meeting of the Londesborough UCW. A short game and humorous readings on a variety of topics brought much laughter that evening and reminded the women that life shouldn’t be taken too seriously, that laughter is cathartic and can help get one through the difficult times. Conducting the worship service were Lena Nesbitt, Rena Kolkman, Jane Hoggart and Barb Bosman telling everyone that love, joy and laughter go hand in hand. By means of a video, Liz Curtis Higgs, entertained with her particularly amusing take on life. It was a fun presentation with an uplifting message. During the business part of the gathering, a number of ongoing concerns - change table, Camp Menesetung, the cookbook, caterings and piano tunings - were discussed. Il was decided to leave the M & S commitment at $1,500 for 2005. Helen Dale will be officially thaniced for the fine work she did in collecting and framing photos of past ministers of Londesborough United. The collections have been hung in the church entranceway. The UCW will conduct the Sunday morning service on Conference Sunday, May 29. Campsite Experience, to be held at Camp Menesetung, is Monday, June 13. Hullett school holds spring concert A large crowd of parents, grandparents and interested community folk were on hand last Wednesday evening for the annual spring concert at Hullett Central Public School. It was an hour of music both instrumental and vocal and for the most part fun/nonsense songs. The senior band demonstrated their versatility by playing two classical pieces. Royal Crown and Westwind Overture followed by two fun selections. Big Rock Candy Mountain and Boot Scootin’ Bam Dance. Rhythm is an important part of musical education and each kindergarten class did a rhythm Continued on page 13 Cheerio members meet for dinner LOCAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE (LAC) SPRING UPDATE #2 Congratulations to the Seaforth Community! These ingredients are all evident in the recent Family Health Team funding announcement, revitalization of the Seaforth Community Health Centre, recruitment efforts, and planning for Hospital based ‘services as our communities work together. The submission of Balanced Budget Plans has been difficult for Ontario Hospitals. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is quite clear that hospitals will be expected to have balanced budgets without significant funding increases, and health care services that hospitals provide will be redefined. Our Balanced Budget Plan submission to the government proposed measures to balance a $7 million deficit with the qualifier that the Board was not in favour of reductions to direct service. The Alliance Board is committed to ensuring that none of the 4 Hospital sites close and that core services at each site include a 24-hour Emergency Department and supporting services. As a small site, we are stronger and more stable as a member of a larger organization. There are the economies of scale in a shared administration and support staff, common integrated information technology, negotiated service contracts and volume purchasing. Staff have greater access to jobs across the 4 sites and there have been recent opportunities to create full time positions across sites. The Local Advisory Committee is the “recruitment committee” for the Seaforth Community Hospital, identifying needs for both the Hospital site and the medical clinic. We work closely with Gwen Devereaux, Community Development Officer of the eight Huron Perth hospitals. The LAC salutes the efforts of the Foundation who, through the financial support of the community and Nevada tickets, have contributed much financial support to the physician recruitment efforts in this community. We also acknowledge the recent support of the Huron East Community Development Trust and Huron East Council to the Seaforth Community Hospital Trust for the Seaforth Community Health Centre and medical clinic. By working together we are stronger. LAC meetings are open to the public; please contact Grace Dolmage at 527-3001 for meeting dates and times. Membership vacancies are advertised annually with applications welcomed from interested individuals in our community.
