Madill track team gets season underway Continued from page 8 team has posted some very strong results at both meets. In the midget girls category, Darby Alcorn has won both of the shot put competitions she has entered with throws of 8.38 metres and 8.60m. She also placed sixth in the 60m sprint at Windsor with a lime of 8.98 seconds in the qualifying heats and 8.97 seconds in rhe finals. The midget girls relay team of Ami Shimanski, Darby Alcorn, Sydney Belleau and Candace Spaling also earned a sixth in the 4 x 200m relay in a time of 2:06.18. The midget boys have also had very strong performances. A.J. Beasley has already broken the Madill record for the midget boys’ long jump which had been set by a second year midget at Madill before the age categories were modified last year. Beasley jumped 5.90m to place second at Kitchener. After so many years of dominant track and field teams it is a major accomplishment to break a Madill record. The fact that Beasley achieved this result during difficult weather conditions and so early in the season is all the more impressive. Beasley also won the long jump in Windsor with a jump of 5.56m. He finished fifth in the 800m at Kitchener in a time of 2:24.23.
