Blyth Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, along with the help of their leaders, were busy Saturday morning planting trees near Dungannon until the weather turned bad and they were forced to quit by noon. They planted over 3.000 trees. Well done! meeting At the April 18 meeting of North Huron council, solicitor Ron Craigen was present to discuss tax arrears on a Patrick Street property. Craigen said that the situation dated back seven years when the purchaser of the property discovered that a buried oil tank w a s leaking,and causing soil contamination. The new owner has not moved Winning ways Jessica Sparling, daughter of Steven and Laurie of Blyth, continues to dominate the public speaking contests with a first-place finish in her Grade 7-9 category at the Royal Canadian Legion Zone C, D and E Area contest in Hanover last Saturday. She now advances to the provincial competition in Kingston on May 7. Jessica is a Grade 8 student at Blyth Public School. Her competitors were Jessica Howell of Orillia and Kathryn Clark of Toronto. (Photo submitted) Damage done to Blyth school On April 18 at 10 a.m. OPP were notified of damage done to the Blyth Public School located King Street. Sometime over the previous weekend a person threw stones at the door window leading into the kindergarten classroom. The glass in the door was damaged and will cost about $300 to replace. On April 20 at 9:30 a.m. OPP were called for the second time in a few days. Sometime overnight a person broke a window on the east side of the school. A door window was damaged when it was found with a hole in the bottom section. The damage looks like it was done with a pellet from a pellet gun. If you can help solve this crime call the Wingham OPP office or Crime Stoppers. Mother Nature played a trick on us this past weekend. She didn’t want us to forget that it can still snow the end of April. Many things were cancelled in the area including Blyth United Church. As a result 1 don’t have any church news but some dates to remember May 1, Rural Life Sunday, a tribute to Dr. Ken Jackson; May 8. Mother’s Day, baptism and church membership. into the residence and no one has paid taxes since 1998. Craigen suggested that council consider writing off all or a portion of the taxes pursuant to Section 357 of the Municipal Act in order to finalize an agreement between the purchaser and the vendor. Director of finance/treasurer Donna White said that both the municipality’s solicitor and the assessment office have stated that the section does not apply in this case. Craigen was thanked by council and told that the matter would be discussed further.
