Guild meets
Speaker

group
The Brussels. Morris and Grey
diabetic meeting was held on
Wednesday, April 20 at Huronlea,
Brussels.
Nelva Scott welcomed those in
attendance and read an e-mail poem
My Forgetter’s Getting Better, But
My Rememberer Is Broke.
Copies of an article on diabetes
diet and exercise, given by Mary
Proctor were distributed. The
speaker last month, Kim Ross-Jones
returned her travel cheque and has
helped the Brussels library get one
pedometer which can be taken out
for three weeks, just like a book.
Mrs. Scott introduced the guest
• speaker, James Brown, pharmacist
from Pharma-Plus, Wingham, who
spoke on complications of diabetes
and how to prevent them using as
his reference The Canadian Journal
of Diabetes. He emphasized the
necessity of controlling the
complications of high/low blood
sugars, high blood pressure and
cholesterol.
With each complication he
indicated the damage that could
occur and gave examples on how to
control each. The examples ranged
from lifestyle changes to various
medications available.
He also spoke of two newer types
of insulin. Brown answered
questions during and after the
presentation.
During the business portion a
motion was made to give Huronlea
Auxiliary a donation.
The next meeting will be May 18.
The guest speaker will be Dr.
Hagerman, optometrist from
Wingham.

The snow arrived just as we
figured. The surprise was the
amount and the length of the stay.
Feeling sorry for the pretty flowers
tipped or even covered by snow was
enough to make one shiver. It took a
little thought to get to the point of
our lack of control over the weather
and that yes we need the moisture in
the ground. So here’s to the white
days of April.
If you’re feeling a little safer this
week that may be in part because the
Brussels Fire Department has just
completed their First Response
training. So good for you fellas and
thanks on behalf of our community
for once again ensuring our safety.
Sunday at the United Church,
children were being celebrated and
enjoyed. The congregation was
introduced to Erin Overholt,
daughter of Andy and Sarah and to
Griffin Marshall, son of Kelly and
Nick. Lots of aunts and uncles were
in attendance as the sacrament of
baptism was celebrated.

Gary and Heather Dauphin and
Jack and Sue Overholt watched
proudly as their descendants took
the next step of life and all behaved
beautifully.
The choir anthem, celebrating the
role of children in our faith life, was
extra special as the children from the
Music & More program added their
voices to this special day.
Soccer and ball practices are now
on schedule. It just seems a little odd
with the white stuff. Oh well, this
too shall pass.
Enjoy the last week of April. You
even have an extra day to file your
beloved tax story.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
