The Citizen, 2005-04-21, Page 14PAGE 14. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 21, 2005. FROM LONDESBORO ‘Spoony9 leads morning service Barb Hicks, also known as “Spoony” from her days as director of Camp Menesetung, led the morning service at Londesborough United Church on Sunday, April 17. The theme of the service was Ministry versus Mission. She explained that one’s ministry in life is tied to the people and family of one’s church whereas mission involves sharing one’s faith to those outside the faith. In Chapter 29, verses 10-14, the prophet Jeremiah tells the Israelites that God will keep His promise and return them to His purpose for them. In Luke 6: 35-38, Christ tells the crowds that one can be the children of the highest if one forgives and loves one’s enemies. During her time with the children. Mrs. Hicks told them that each of them has a purpose in life; that by coming to Sunday School they will near to feel God’s spirit and He will show them His purpose for their life. She spoke of how even young children who had remembered what their teachers had said, had helped many others during and after the tsunami in Southeast Asia. God had given these children a purpose in His plan. Barb reminded the adults that they are children of God and special to Him. He has a plan'for everyone but each has to tap into their particular purpose and look for creative ways to fulfill His mission of sharing faith. Shared love can make changes for good in others. Encouragement helps others to recognize and share what talents they have to offer the world. By sharing one’s own story of life and faith everyone of us can celebrate another’s life story and come together in God’s love and purpose. Next Sunday is Camping Sunday. Camp Menesetung has issued their annual “wish list” and it is posted on the bulletin boards at the church. The camp can use a wide variety of items and you may be able to supply one of them. Donations can be put in the box on the table in the narthex or by contacting Barb Knox or Brenda Radford. Canadian Tire money can be placed on the offering plate any Sunday. The senior choir will practise at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 24. There is no Junior choir practice this Wednesday, April 20. PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO APPOINTMENT Fun night and silent auction huge success Hullett’s Community Fun Night and Silent Auction was again a huge success. They were blessed with such a warm evening that many children gravitated outside to play after they had enjoyed the magic of “Bugsy” - Brenda Empey, face painting, food, guessing games, balloons and their own silent auction. And there was a fantastic crowd of adults inside all evening socializing and bidding on 265 donated items. The wide selection of auction items meant everyone could find something to their liking to take home. Some of us found more than one. Congratulations to the SAC committee and parents for their efforts. It was truly a fun evening for the school and community that raised $9,000 for library materials. The Londesborough Lions Club were also kept busy Sunday morning keeping breakfast ready at the Community Hall for both early and late risers. Heard at some point during the village’s community activities was the news tha' two members of the Londesborough Masonic Lodge recently received their 50-year pin for service: Doug Snell and Jack Lee. Congratulations gentlemen. Living life. Living proof. Lions Club breakfast The Londesborough Lions Club held its breakfast at the Community Hall on Sunday.
