FROM LONDESBORO
for virtues
At the assembly held on Monday,
April 4 at Hullett Central Public
School, pupils were recognized for
exemplifying the virtues under
consideration during the month of
March.
A young girl who, as a friend,
always does what she says she is
going to. was noted for
demonstrating trustworthiness.
Understanding was noticed in a
pupil who understands the feelings
of others and doesn’t like to see
someone’s feelings hurt.
The pupil who enters a room
quietly each day and starts to work
without bothering others was an
example of peacefulness. By
answering honestly a young boy was
recognized for his integrity.
The virtues chosen for the first full
month of spring seem quite
appropriate I think for that “coming
to life” month - courage: the ability
to face something fearful;
excellence: to demonstrate your
highest potential; enthusiasm: to
demonstrate a love for life; and
creativity: the ability to show a fresh
perspective.
Wednesday, April 6 the Grade 5
pupils began their eight-week
program of swimming lessons at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre. Mr.
Caldwell will accompany the Hullett
pupils each Wednesday afternoon.
The program receives partial
funding from the Blyth Canadian
Legion. Hullett will be sharing
transportation with the Blyth school.
The pupils have been preparing
since January for the school’s spring
concert. The school band has some
new pieces to present and the choirs
have been practising “nonsense
songs” for everyone’s amusement.
Both kindergarten classes will be

Fun service
at United
Church
The Sunday ser
Londesborough United Church on
April I0 was conducted by Melissa
Snyders with a guest appearance by
Bubbie the clown, aka. Dad, Bruce
Whitmore. Their meditation
dialogue was titled “How Deep Is
God’s Love.
Bubbie, the clown, was apparently
on his way to a parade when he had
car trouble outside the church, he
came in to ask for help and got quite
involved in the service.
Conversations and interactions
between Bubbie and Melissa and the
congregants and the children, who
stayed up for the whole service,
explored the morning's theme.
What would a clown be without
balloons? And Bubbie had some for
the children. To begin with he
shaped the balloons like a sword, for
the soldiers protecting Christ, and
quickly, turned up the other way,
they became crosses. Now the
children were the soldiers of Christ
and marched about the sanctuary.
When Bubbie left, with a copy of
the Bible, he had learned much
about Christianity and the
congregation had had a fresh look at
their faith. The word Bible, as an
acronym, it was explained, stands
for Basic Instruction Before Leaving
Earth.
Judging others was the theme of
the first scripture reading, verses 37
and 38 of Luke, chapter 6. The
second scripture passage, Ephesians
3: 14-2L spoke about “how broad,
how high and how deep is Christ’s
love.”
Barb Hicks will be pulpit supply in
Rev. Cook’s absence on April 17.
The choirs will practise Thursday
evening beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The UCW will meet at 7:30 p.m.
for dessert and their

anniversary of the musical evening,
two concerts are being held - one at
2:30 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m. This
year’s ticket includes either an
afternoon performance or an evening

Some Grade 8 Hullett students recently enjoyed trying out the new benches constructed by

students) installed the benches in early April so that the students could enjoy them as the
weather warmed up. (Photo submitted)
