North Huron says no more summer ice

The good news about summer ice
at the North Huron Wescast
Community Complex is that it’s
generating $2,000 a week.
The bad news, council learned, is
that it’s costing the municipality
roughly $6,168 to operate it,
resulting in a weekly loss of about
$4,000 through August and
September.

fairly shocking," said MacGowan.
He noted that Dan Cousins, the
director of recreation/facilities had
said when the request for summer
ice first came forward that a certain
number of rental hours would be
needed to make it feasible.
“We have made improvements (in
the rentals), but nowhere near what’s
needed,” said MacGowan.
Clerk-administrator John Stewart
said that September is virtually “a
zero month.”
