Festival announces 3x3 miniature art sale
The Blyth Festival has announced
its fourth 3x3 miniature
masterpieces Art Draw and Auction,
this year in conjunction with the
Foundation for Enriching Education
Perth Huron. The Foundation’s
mandate is to provide arts
enrichment opportunities for
children in Huron and Perth
Counties, making it an ideal partner
for the Blyth Festival in this special
fundraising event on April 30.
Over 70 artists have generously
contributed over 130 pieces of
original artwork in many forms of
media ranging from watercolour and
oil, to photography, stained glass,
pottery, sculpture and papier-mache.
Regional artists in Huron and Perth
Counties as well as artists from
Kitchener, Owen Sound, Clifford,
Mississauga, Markdale, Toronto and
Victoria, B.C. have all donated
unique miniatures.
Brussels and Blyth area artists
include: Betty Battye, Gil Garratt,
Trudy Anne Reinholt. Carol
McDonnell, and Jerry McDon
nell.
The exhibition will open on April
16 in the Bainton Gallery at Blyth
Memorial Community Hall in the
village of Blyth, and will be open
daily to the general public until the
event on April 30.
Tickets are $99 each (plus $26 for
your guest). Ticket holders will have
their chance to choose one piece of
art as their name is called. Tension
mounts as the evening progresses,
and choices on the walls of the
gallery diminish.
Guests will enjoy appetizers
prepared and served by Stratford
Northwestern Secondary School's
Screamin' Avocado (culinary arts
students).
Anyone unable to attend can still
participate by filling in their top
eight choices and designating a
proxy to select on their behalf. The
artwork is available to review on
either website:
www.foundationforeducation.on.ca
or www.blythfestival.com

Festival Box office at 1-877-862-

Blyth Festival Box Office
opens for 31st season
“In 2005 we present yet another
summer of wonderful theatre,”
declared Eric Coates, artistic
director of the Blyth Festival as the
box office opens to the general
public for the 31st season.
Coates announced, “We're
offering a full spectrum of delight on
the 2005 playbill. Five great plays,
all written within whistling distance
of the little village of Blyth
including an outrageous comedy, a
heartwarming family saga and sheer
musical wizardry. This year we’re
presenting two world premieres, and
a remount of two favourites from the
past that were developed right here
in Blyth. From the knock-down
drag’em out comedy of The Ginkgo
Tree to the spine-tingling mystery of
I’ll Be Back Before Midnight, the
2005 season has something for
families and people of all ages.”
“The Blyth Festival holds a
special place in the heart of
Canadian theatre,” Coates added.
“By the end of 2005, we’ve
introduced 96 world premieres of
156 productions mounted on the
stages at Memorial Hall. As more
and more Canadian plays are being
produced across this country, we can
be proud that the Blyth Festival has
been such a force in new play
development.”

plays, special events, and the Blyth
Festival Art Gallery exhibitions.

few weeks, or call the Box office at

HWIN dinner offers
networking opportunity
Women ... don’t miss the
networking opportunity of the year.
The HWIN (Huron Women in
Networking) dinner is back again,
scheduled for Thursday, April 14.
Two previous efforts, in .2004,
brought close to 100 women
together. The dinner is geared to
women of all ages, not soley
business women, but reportedly
several business deals have been
initiated following these evenings.
Once again it will be hosted by the
Huron Small Business Enterprise
Centre and held at the White
Carnation banquet hall in
Holmesville, with social time at 6
p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.
There will be a panel presentation
from local women entrepreneurs,
rather than a guest speaker. Each
panelist will be given (in advance) a
series of questions and will come
prepared with a one-minute answer,
based on their personal business
experience.
During dinner, those donating
door prizes, and those winning them,
will each have an opportunity to give
a one-minute advertisement of the
business/career. At the end of the
evening, the grand prize will be won
in a contest challenging everyone’s
memory regarding those businesses.
The grand prize has once again
been donated by Kathy Nichol,
executive director of the Innkeepers
of Ontario. It features a one-night
stay for two at one of Ontario’s
finest Inns - the Waterloo Inn.
Cost is $25 per person.
Bring along business cards and
brochures.
Pre-registration is required by
April 8. Call Alison Lobb, business
consultant, or Lisa Harper,
administrative assistant, at the
Huron Business Enterprise Centre,
527-0305.
