Obituaries JOSEPH (JOE) MICHAEL COURTNEY Joseph (Joe) Michael Courtney of Dungannon passed away at Wingham and District Hospital on March 18, 2005. He was 87. Bom in Ashfield Twp. to the late Joseph and Grace (Westrope) Courtney on Feb. 11, 1918, Mr. Courtney farmed in Ashfield Twp. He was the beloved husband of M. Teresa (Austin) Courtney. He was the dear father of Gary and Chris Courtney of Blyth, Brian and Jeannette Courtney of Texas and Eric and Anna Courtney of Burlington. He was the loving grandfather of Ryan, Dale, Mike, Elisha, Nick, Brett, Sarah and David Courtney. Mr. Courtney is survived as well by his si§ter. Marie Judge of Jackson, Michigan. Four sons, Joseph in infancy, Wayne (1984), Floyd (1988) and Carl (1990); and his siblings, Edward, Fay, Leo, Grace, Vivian, Fred and Reta predeceased him. Visitation was at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow on Wednesday, March 23 from noon until 2:30 p.m. Funeral mass was held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kingsbridge at 3 p.m. Father Sawiki officated. Pianist was Marianne Hogan. Pallbearers were Kerry Hogan, Dale Courtney, Mike Courtney, Nick Courtney, Ryan Courtney and Michael Courtney. Interment will be at St: Joseph’s Cemetery, Kingsbridge. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or St. Joseph’s Building Fund would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. MABEL MAE BAUER Mabel Mae (Leasa) Bauer of Brussels passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2005 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. Bom in Ellice Twp. on Dec. 5, 1922, Mabel was in her 83rd year. She was the beloved wife of the late Reinhardt Bauer. She was the dear mother of Orval and Ruth Bauer of Brussels, Mervyn and Donna Bauer of Brussels, Marilyn and Keith Campbell of Rockwood, Joan Robinson and husband David Morrow of London, Jean and Jim Fox of Kitchener, Royce and Brenda Bauer of Owen Sound, Darrell and Cathy Bauer of Saltillo, Mexico, Doug and Sheila Bauer of London and Cheryl and Paul Ryan of Walton. She was the dear mother-in-law of Jim Ward of Stratford. Mrs. Bauer was the loving sister of Ida Faulhafer, Pearl McKone and Mildred Thompson all of Stratford. She was the beloved sister-in-law of Lloyd Cook, Helen Leasa, Hazel Leasa, Albert and Edith Bauer and Hulda Bauer. Mrs. Bauer was also loved by 25 grandchildren and II great-grandchildren. A daughter, Doris Ward, three grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers predeceased her. Friends were received by the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home. The funeral service was conducted from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wallace Twp. on Monday, March 28 at U a.m. with Pastor Ralph Dwarika officiating. Remembrances of Mabel were given by grandchildren Bev Ward, Kim Lorimer, Tracey Campbell, Lorrie Robinson, Rhonda Coulis, Rebecca Bauer, Amy Bauer, Lindsay Bauer and Veronica Wilson. As a tribute to her grandmother Nicole Bauer sang Amazing Grace. Acting as crucifer was Adam Bauer and as candle bearer was Curtis Ryan. Carrying floral tributes were Eric Ward, Matthew Ryan, Darren Bauer, Rodney Bauer, Vincent Bauer, Kelly Bauer and Richard Morrow. Pallbearers were Brett Bauer, Kerry Bauer, Randy Ward, Tom Robinson, Michael Fox, Stephen Bauer, Jason Campbell and Colin Bauer. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wallace Twp. JOSEPH SAMUEL THUELL Joseph Samuel Thuell of London passed away peacefully at London Health Sciences Centre, University Campus on Thursday, March 24, 2005. He was in his 84th year. Mr. Thuell was a veteran of WWII. He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Thuell in 2003. He was the son of the late William C. Thuell (1976) and Ruth E. Thuell (1977). He was the dear brother of Violet M. Fowler, Wardsville; Isabel German and Ruth Dougherty both of Blyth and the late Ross Thuell formerly of Arizona. Samuel will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews and their families and dear friend, Bernie of London. At his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial mass to celebrate Samuel’s life will be held on Saturday, April 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church, Glencoe. Interment of cremated remains will be at to be at North American Martyrs Cemetery, Wardsville. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society (London Branch). WILLIAM HENRY SANDERSON Mr. William Sanderson of RR1, Bluevale, passed away at his residence on Sunday, March 27, 2005. He was 78. He was the beloved son of the late Roy and Margaret (Ash) Sanderson. He was the dear brother of Hazel (Mrs. Howard Ryan) of RR1, Bluevale and Ruby (Mrs. George Burgers) of RR1, Listowel. He was the brother-in-law of Laura Sanderson of RR2, Wroxeter and Allan Edgar of Brussels. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sanderson was predeceased by his sister Margaret Edgar and by his brothers Gordon and Cecil Sanderson and infant brother George. Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Joan Tuchlinsky officiated. Interment will be in Wroxeter Cemetery, Howick Twp. Memorial donations to Bluevale United Church, Wingham and District Hospital or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. IRENE McCALL Frances Irene (Vodden) McCall of Clinton passed away at Clinton Public Hospital on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 in her 91 st year. Irene was bom in Goderich Twp. on Aug. 19, 1914, daughter of the late William John Vodden and the late Frances M. Jenkins. Irene was a e longtime member of Wesley-Willis United Church, Clinton Wesley-Willis United Women and a member Women’s Institute, Walton. She was the beloved wife of the late George McCall (1988), and loving mother of William McCall of Clinton. She was the dear sister of Jeanne and Leonard Lund of Winfield, B.C. Mrs. McCall was predeceased by two sisters Olive and Ruth Vod­ den. Friends were received at the Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd., 153 High St., Clinton on March 3 from 7 - 9 p.m. where the funeral service was held on Friday, March 4 at 2 p.m. with officiating. Dr. Roberta Bondar will speak on the interaction of human beings with planet Earth. The symposium will also provide a variety of environmental workshops, a children’s program, and displays from local environmental organizations as well as speakers addressing outdoor air quality, storm water quality and a vision for the future. The event will be held at Stratford Northwestern Secondary School. It begins at 9 a.m. and will run to approximately 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and will be available at three Stratford locations, P’lovers, Anything Grows and The Gentle Rain.
