Communion observed at United
The sacrament of communion was
observed at Londesborough United
Church on Sunday, March 20, Palm
Sunday. Assisting Rev. Pat Cook
were elders Brian Whyte. Brenda
Konarski, Cheryl Trewartha, Don
Goodall. Mary Anne Drost and Betty
Archambault.
Bert and Joanne Lyon led the
Lenten Tepebrae for the beginning of
Holy Week.
Why Does He Seem to be so Sad?,
was the anthem offered by the senior
choir, a different look at the entry in
to Jerusalem by Jesus.
The minute for missions, read by
Don Goodall, was titled Sacred
Circles. Supported by funds from the
mission and service fund, this school
in Saskatchewan encourages
aboriginals to minister to their own
people.
During their time at the front, the
boys and girls learned that the palm
branch cross is a symbol of what
Christ did when He was here on
earth and the love He has for all.
Then the children handed out palm
crosses to each in the congregation.
Rev. Pat drew attention to the
Celtic Cross she was wearing for the
Easter season. It is representative of
a large cross in Ireland and features a
knotwork design signifying that a
journey of faith never ends.
Who Is This was the theme of her
message. The responsive psalm.
Psalm 31 is a prayer of praise offered
by David.
Matthew 21: 1-11, the morning's
Gospel reading, is an account of
Jesus' triumphant entry into
Jerusalem. The day Jesus entered
Jerusalem was during the time of
Passover and the city had crowds of
excited people.
They questioned who this man was
and were happy to shout
“Hallelujah” as He made His way
through the streets.
The fact that Jesus came on back
of a donkey showed His willingness
to come in peace, to give love and
help to the throngs and claim the
kingship of hearts.
Typical of mobs, by Friday those
same people were chanting, "Crucify
Him.” These folk were easily
swayed by those in Jerusalem who
plotted against Jesus.
Just as Christ did, Christians need
to understand who they are to be able
to resist the temptations around them
to deny Christ. This Holy Week
people need to prepare themselves
for living Christ’s invitation to
celebrate the Resurrection.

We have officially entered the

“Earth stirs herself from a long

Gladdening the heart as a promise

As we open door to spring again.”
Sunday is Easter and likewise I
offer this thought: “Easter is an
awakening of every living thing. A

Cheerio women and two guests
met at noon for a Chinese dinner at
the China Palace in Clinton
Wednesday, March 16.
The women stayed there for
remainder of their afternoon
their meeting was opened with a
Gaelic blessing given by Dorothy
Johnston.
Following the roll call, Edythe
Beacom passed around pictures of
the Cheerio Club taken in 1946 and
the early 1950s. These pictures
received much interest concerning
the identification of the past
members, etc. The gift of the month
given by Beth Knox was won by
Gloria McEwing.
Before heading home, the women
played some fun hands of cards.
They will meet again on April 20.
