The March meeting of the evening
unit of the Brussels UCW met at the
home of Karen Cardiff with nine
members and one guest present.
Nelva Scott opened the meeting
with the UCW Purpose, then led the
devotions with the reading Catching
Rainbows. This was followed by the
scripture Genesis 9:
covenant with Noah.
Come, Children, Join
followed by prayer.
Mrs. Scott introduced
speaker Yvonne Kitchen
Huron Hospice Volunteer Services
who spoke on the Rainbows
Program which was organized by
Susie Marta from Chicago. Mrs.
Kitchen’s first interest was palliative
care which she described as helping
a person on their final journey of
death. But she explained the rest of
the family were left without help, so
started the Grief Recovery a 12-
week course for adults.
But there was no support for
children (known as the forgotten
ones). Thus began Rainbows. It
deals with children who have
suffered a loss from many different
circumstances; a move, loss of a pet,
a family separation, or a death.
Mrs. Kitchen asked for
descriptions from those attending
about the loss of a pet and how it
was dealt with and how they dealt
with disappointments and anger.
Most as children had loving parents
to talk to.
She explained that grief was a
journey from the head to the heart.
She shared several personal
situations. She showed a video
explaining the Rainbows program
and children sharing some personal
situations. She said Rainbows is a
self-help group run with a facilitator.
Children support each other.
The program runs for 45 minutes a
session and includes such weekly
programs as uniqueness and inside-
out. Each program contains a craft
session and time of sharing. It gives
the children a voice where they can
share their feelings. The children arc
divided into age groups.
Huron Hospice has run three
groups to date.

Roses require five to six hours a

varieties - climbing roses,
floribunda, grandiflora and hybrid
teas. etc.
The soil should be 10 parts peat
and 40 parts compost or manure.
You should test for PH levels. If you
need more acidity you need more
peat.
Always water in the morning.
Pruning is also advised.
Ruth Bauer thanked Mrs.
Heinmiller and presented her with a
