Blyth PeeWees end
playoffs with great game
On Feb. 27 Blyth PeeWees played BCH and took a 5-3 toss.
The first Blyth goal was scored by Martin Ellis, assisted by Dana Teed.
In the second period Ryan Sjaarda bulged the twine. Assists went to Ellis
and Daniel Elliott. Sjaarda netted one more unassisted.
On Feb. 28 Ripley came to Blyth and whitewashed their hosts 6-0.
March 3 Blyth played Seaforth. Seaforth won 4-1. Sjaarda scored assisted
by Jordan Bakelaar.
The March 6 game was also against Seaforth and Blyth lost this one 6-2.
Martin Ellis and Aaron Popp scored. Assists went to Trevor Raynard and
Jordan Bakelaar.
On March 7 Blyth took BCH into overtime but BCH won 4-3. It was a
great game played by both teams.
The second-period goal was scored by Cody Ducharme assisted by Jeff
Plaetzer. Third-period goals were scored by Elliott and Sjaarda. An assist
was credited to Loretta Thompson.
Great goaltending by Andrew Bailey.
The last game of playoffs was against BCH. Blyth won 5-4 Scoring were
Bakelaar, Ducharme, two. Ellis and Colton Kerr. Assists went to Thompson,
Ducharme, two and Sjaarda. It was another great game for Bailey.
There was also great teamwork by Shawna Popp, Aaron Popp, Andrew
Hess, Jeff Plaetzer, Janneke Barten, Raynard, Teed and Elliott.
Brussels Tykes host Elma-Logan
Sunday, March 6 the Brussels Tykes hosted Elma Logan in an exhibition
Casemore Cup
The annual June Casemore Memorial Cup game was played Sunday afternoon at the
Wingham Golf and Curling Club. And, it pitted brother against brother at the skip position and
father against son at the lead position. Shawn Cottrill and his rink of third Pat Graham-Roberts,
second Dale Gammie and lead Wayne Forster went up against Chris Cottrill and his rink of
third Hugh Todd, second Kayla Bishop and lead Kyle Forster. Shawn Cottrill scored a 6-3 win

Brussels came out flying from the start and posted a 7-1 win. Scoring for
Brussels were Mitch Kellington with three, Kai Hiemstra with two, Wyatt
Ducharme and Dawson Peachey. Picking up assists were Scott Baan,
Kellington, Scott Dolmage, Logan Clark, Ducharme with two and Hiemstra.
Brussels travelled to Harriston this past weekend to play in the Minto
tournament. On Friday night Brussels played Listowel and cruised to a 5-2
win. Scoring for Brussels was Ducharme with two, Hiemstra with two and
Tim Waechter.
Saturday the Tykes played a strong team from Minto. In what most parents
said was the most exciting game of the year Brussels skated to a 5-5 tie.
Leading the charge for Brussels was birthday boy Colton Hastings with a
pair, Hiemstra with two and Ben Hruska with his first of the year.
Later on in the afternoon Brussels faced off against Durham. Brussels was
in control from start to finish. Leading the way was Ducharme with three
goals, Hiemstra with two and Waechter with a single. The final score was 6-
0 Brussels.
ABCDD Blyth ladies win three
games in Walkerton tournament
On Saturday, March 12 the ABCDD Blyth Ladies
hockey team blew away the opposition in the Walkerton
tournament and recorded three straight victories.
They met a tough Teeswater squad first, but skated
away to a 3-1 win. Pat Newson scored first. Anne Elliott
added another, and Courtney Zinn tallied the third goal.
The second game was against the Bad Apple gang
from Lucknow. Blyth fought back from a two-goal
deficit, and won 3-2.
Jill Sholdice (filling in for vacationing sis, Michelle
Blake) opened the scoring for Blyth with two minutes
left in the second period, assisted by Kathy Lavis. Lila
Procter notched the second goal, assisted by Joan
Bridge. The game winner was put in by Summer Papple,
assisted by Anne Lavis.
Nikki Snell had a good game in net.
In the final game, Blyth played Owen Sound. Blyth
tallied six goals and goalies Snell and Jane Badman
shared the shutout. Terri Patterson blasted in the opening
wrist shot. Finishing the first-period scoring was Lavis
from Papple. The only second-period goal was from
Newson.
The defense team of Karen Youngblut, Lisa Whitf'eld,
Michelle McNichol, Zinn and Sholdice did an excellent
job shutting down Owen Sound’s rushes.
The third period was all Blyth. as Papple notched one,
and Proctor assisted by Karen Piett and McNichol and
Newson from Melissa Boven added two more.
Joyce Bean came out of retirement to help coach the
team.
The ABCDD’s next tournament is in Strathroy on the
April 1 weekend.

in the net and did a great job.
This coming weekend Brussels
plays a double header. At 10 a.m. on
Saturday they host Seaforth. At 3
p.m. they travel to Zurich to finish
off the season.

on Saturday, March 12.
Scoring the first goal for Blyth was
Dustin Treble, assisted by Drew
Bromley. The second goal was
scored by Bromley, assisted by
Owen Weber. Justin Rodgers snuck
one in assisted by Craig Raynard.
„ The next two goals for Blyth were
scored by Bromley unassisted.
Playing in net was Hunter Dale.

Blyth Novices hold 2-giinie lead
The Blyth Novices won the first two games of their
best-three-of-five series with Teeswater last week.
The first game of the series was played March 8 at the
Teeswater Culross Memorial Community Centre, with
the visiting Blyth squad skating to a 5-1 win.
Alex Peters and Spencer Stevenson had two goals
apiece tor the winners. Dylan Bromley netted a single
marker. Dustin Pennington earned a pair of assists.
Single helpers were collected by Matt Van Wyk, Trystan
Weber and Peters.
Bantam Bulldogs’
1 he Blyth Bantam Bulldogs season officially ended
with a two-games-to-one series toss to BCH-AE.
Mike Van Wyk recorded the win in the Blyth net.
Peters scored three times in the game played at the
Blyth and District Community Centre played on March
10.
Stevenson had two goals and an assist, with Bromley
getting a goal and one helper. Dalton Richmond,
Braydon Whitfield and Weber each received one assist.

Game three in the series will be played Saturday at 10
a.m. in Teeswater.
season concludes
The team is now looking forward to the tournament in
Milverton, April 1 and 2.
