N. Huron
applies for
Trillium
grant
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
North Huron is going ahead with
an application for a Trillium grant
to make repairs at Memorial Hall.
Clerk-administrator John Stewart
told council at Monday night’s
meeting that the application is
being submitted for repairs to the
water damaged north wall.
He noted that construction would
not begin this summer, however, as
everything could not be ready in
time. “It may be next year before
construction, however we may need
a temporary fix done to keep the
water from running down the walls,
this year.”

North Huron council ponders
need for new fire pumper
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
The need to meet mutual aid
requirements has raised some
concerns for North Huron council.
Information presented at the
Monday night meeting of council
indicated that in 2008, the Wingham
Area Fire Department will require
the replacement of its pumper truck.
Questioned by reeve Doug Layton
on whether or not this was really
necessary, councillor Archie
MacGowan, a representative of
council on the fire board explained
that in order to be a mutual aid
department the equipment can only
be “so old.’’
Deputy-reeve Murray Scott noted
that regardless of council’s decision
on this it was important to start
thinking of setting aside some
reserves for the department. He also
added that he had looked at the
garage doors at the fire hall, which
were also stated to be in need of
replacement, and felt they are
showing signs of wear.
“There is no reason they won’t last
another year, but sometime they will
have to be done.’
As for the operating budget itself
council agreed with Scott that it was
as “fine” as it can be.
Layton questioned whether or not
there was some way the Wingham
and Blyth departments could use
equipment back and forth. Scott
agreed saying “it wouldn’t hurt to sit
down and look at how these
departments are operating.”
Council’s concerns were going to
be taken to the next fire board
meeting and a report will be brought
to the next meeting of council.
