Minor Atom Lakers eliminate Brantford
The Huron Perth Minor Atom Lakers have
substantially lengthened their season with a series win
over the Brantford 99ers.
After losing three straight in the first round to the
Waterloo Wolves, all close-fought games, the Minor
Atoms thought they would be in for a tough time against
Brantford having dropped all four season meetings to the
squad.
First game went Brantford’s way with a 4-3 decision in
their favour.
The next contest the Lakers edged Brantford 3-2 at
home. Head coach Kelly Higgs stated that “the win was
the pivotal point in the series, once the kids knew they
could beat this team there was no turning back”.
Brantford battled to a 3-3 tie in their own barn the
following day with the Lakers soundly outplaying them,
then Brantlord fell 5-3 to the Lakers squad in the next
meet.
The final game of the series in the Brantford Gretzky
Complex was end-to-end action with a terrific result for
the Lakers a 0-0 tie.
The tie secured the Lakers’ six-point scries and gave
them the contest.
The Lakers now move on to face Hamilton a team that
they have beaten four straight during the regular season.
The Minor Atoms hope to win the Eastern division
conciliation and move on to the championship league
playoff match.
The Minor Atom Lakers are made up of players all
over Huron and Perth counties. Mac O’Kegfe, P.J.
Conlon, Billy Higgs, Ian Donnelly (Goderich), Keigan
Goetz, Troy Chagnon (Clinton), Greg Scott (Ripley),
Ryan Stulp-Jacobsen (Lucknow), Tyler McNaughton
(Hensall), Tyler Primeau, Joey Metzger (Seaforth). Kody
Bennewies (Mitchell), Dean Zorgdragger, Jared
McCann, (Stratford). Jaydcn Landry (Wallace). Roland
Mckeown (Listowel) .

Ironmen hold two-game lead
Home ice is proving to be something of an advantage
m the Western Junior C Hockey League's semi-final
series between the Wingham Ironmen ai d the Goderich
Sailors.
Although the Ironmen won the first two games of the
senes, the game Sunday afternoon in Goderich was not
won until the final whistle.
Wingham took game one of the series, 8-3. Friday
evening at the North Huron Wescast Community
Complex. Game two was played at the Mailland
Recreation Complex.
Wingham’s leading point-getter during the regular
season. Cole Stewart of Blyth, was limited to just three
assists in the first two games.
Captain Zack O’Krafka powered the Ironmen to their
8-3 decision in game one as he fired three goals. Shawn
Walker had a goal and two assists, with single markers
tallied by Cory Hamilton. Ted Lceb. Luke Williams and
Matt MacPhee. Stewart earned a pair of helpers, with
single assists going to Joel Riley. Chris Stanley, Matt
Hill. Justin Russell and Ryan Fry.
Scoring for Goderich were Terry Adair with a pair and
Chad Gooyers with one.
O’Krafka. Fry and Stanley did the scoring for
Wingham on Sunday, with Stanley’s marker at 18:31 of
the second period proving to be the winner.
Dan Drennan gave Goderich a 1-0 lead at 8:40 of the
second period and Mark Denomy scored the Sailors’
second goal at 19:59 of period three.
Game three in the series was scheduled for Monday
night in Wingham, but was cancelled due to the weather.
Game three will now be played on Friday in Goderich,
beginning at 8:30 p.m. and game four
will be played at the complex in
Wingham on Saturday, with the
opening faceoff set for 8 p.m.

The Municipality of Central Huron is pleased
to announce the 4th annual Central Huron
Donation Fund. The Municipality will again set
aside funds to assist and promote community
based non-profit organizations. Funding is
also available for national and international
non-profit organizations whose programs demonstrate a direct benefit for the residents
of our municipality.
To Qualify
Organizations must be non-profit. Proposed programs or events must clearly demon
strate a direct social or economic benefit for residents of Central Huron. Successful
organizations will be required to submit a post project report identifying the use of the
funds.
Application
Applications for funding should include:
Description of program or event
Date of program or event
Organization budget for proposed program or event
Targeted resident group., if appropriate
Supporting information including statistics for previous similar projects
Amount of funding requested, specifying whether a cash or in-kind donation is
required.
Phase I
Deadline for applications must be received by 12:00 noon May 15th, 2005.

Phase II
Applications will be received throughout the calendar year.
An East Wawanosh Public School player attempts to steal
the ball from a Howick Central School opponent during the
North Huron elementary schools’ annual basketball
tournament held Feb. 24. Six boys teams competed in the
event held at F. E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham.
