Grey speakers advance to Legion
Congratulations to all the Grey
Central Public School students who
look part in the school speeches last
week. Many were quite good, but
unfortunately only a few students go
to speak at the Brussels Legion.

Huron East approved $20,000 in
grants to organizations plus a two
time $50,000 donation for the
Seaforth Medical Clinic in the 2005
budget.
Among those organizations
receiving grants of more than
$1,000 are the Seaforth Lions Club
Pool with a $6,500 donation, the
Seaforth Community Hospital with
$2,000. Seaforth Santa Claus Parade
with $2,000, Hensall Arena with
$1,100. Brussels Fall Fair with
$1,000 and Tsunami victims with
$1,000.
Other organizations receiving
municipal grants are the Van
Egmond Foundation with $700,
Brussels Horticulture with $500 and
Seaforth Horticulture with $500.
The Brussels Santa Claus parade
will receive $500. Ethel Minor Ball
$500, Huron Plowmen’s Association
$500. Seaforth Girls Marching Band
$500, St. Columban Soccer $500,
Walton Area Sports Club $500 and
Winthrop Community Centre $500.
The Maitland Bank Cemetery will
receive $400, Huron Perth Medical
Recruitment $300. the Geography
Award $200, Huron County Farm
and Home Safety $200. Seaforth
Fall Fair $200, Belgrave. Blyth.
Brussels School Fair $100, Legion
Branch 468 $40, and Legion
Remembrance Day $100.

In spite of the stormy weather on
Sunday evening the Cranbrook
Presbyterian Church’s annual
meeting was held at the church. It
began with a potluck supper enjoyed
by all. Rev. Theresa McDonald-Lee
opened the meeting with prayer.
Eleanor Stevenson was appointed
secretary for the meeting and Rev.
Theresa McDonald-Lee was
appointed chairman.
T LEMING EDGAR JOHNSTON
Mr. Fleming Johnston of RR 2.
Bluevale, passed away at Wingham
and District Hospital on Thursday.
Feb. 17, 2005.
He was 81.
He was the beloved husband of the
former Dorothy Mason. He was the
dear father of Wayne and Mary
Johnston of Edmonton, Bonnie
Cronyn of Milverton, Larry
Johnston of RR2, Bluevale. Linda
and Jim Stinson of Thornbury,
Kathy Johnston and friend Wayne
Hartung of Kitchener and Laurie and
Doug Chapman of RR2, Bluevale.
He was the brother-in-law of
Freda Johnston of Belgrave
and Lauretta Johnston of
Woodstock.
\Mr. Johnston was also survived
by 11 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents

The offices were unchanged for
the coming year.
Eleanor Stevenson and Yvonne
Knight attended the Huron-Perth
Presbyterial annual meeting in the
Avonton Presbyterian Church on
Monday.
The results from the darts in
Cranbrook last week were: Karen
Bowles, high lady. 94 points and
Ernie Lewington, high man. 147
points.
Outdoor activities were apparent
in the Cranbrook area this past
week. The snowmobiles were on the
go again and we saw a family
skating in their field which had
flooded after the last rain. As there
was little wind the ponds formed

Visitation was at the McBurney
Funeral Home, Wingham on
Saturday from 2-4 and 7 - 9 p.m.
The funeral service was held at the
funeral home on Sunday at 1:30
p.m. Pastor Joan Tuchlinsky
officiated.
Interment will be in Wingham
Cemetery, Wingham.

Emma Grace (Ashton) Easom
formerly of Blyth and RR1. Auburn
passed away peacefully at
Huronview Home. Clinton, on
Saturday. Feb. 19. 2005.

Sympathy is extended to the
family of the late Bruce Speiran.
Although he lived in Atwood and
Listowel for the last number of
years, he still had many friends and
relatives in the area.

Moes. Cheryl and Calvin Bakelaar,
Connie Baer and Ron Swan. Larry

Baer.
She was also loved by 15 great
grandchildren.

Stratford, Velma Smith of Vanastra
and Mildred and Don Hanley of
Clinton.
Mrs. Easom was predeceased by
one sister Edna Fremlin and by three
brothers Harvey, Cecil and Clifford
Ashton.
Friends were received at the Blyth
Visitation Centre of the Falconer
Funeral Homes Ltd., 407 Queen St.,
Blyth on Sunday from 7 - 9 p.m. and
on Monday from 1 p.m. until the
time of the funeral service at 2
p.m.
Interment will be in Clinton
Cemetery.
Donations to the Blyth United
Church or the Heart and Stroke
Foundation would be appreciated as
expressions of sympathy.
