Donations The new St. Joseph’s Catholic Elementary School located at 297 Smith Street, North in Clinton will be having the official opening on Thursday, Feb. 24. The ceremonies will begin at 1:45 p.m. with ribbon cutting and opening remarks followed by Mass in the school’s gymnasium which will be presided over by the Most Reverend Bishop Ronald P. Fabbro, Bishop of London. The new school was designed to incorporate the building features of St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School (which is located directly in front of St. Joseph’s School) yet at the same time provide a unique presence. The ability to share resources between both elementary and secondary schools is a definite asset. The 17,194 sq. ft. facility includes five classrooms. a kindergarten room, library and gymnasium. / Most unique to this building is a large central gathering area that reflects the Catholic identity of this school. The total cost of the project was $3.7 million and is being funded by the Ministry of Education through its capital grant program. It is estimated that one in four Canadians - or approximately eight million Canadians have some form of cardiovascular disease. In Sunday school class at Blyth United Church children have been discussing what they as children can accomplish. The idea of a service project was put forth and since the tsunami in Asia, the project really took flight. Over the past several weeks the children collected dimes during the service with a goal of $50 set. When that goal was surpassed in two weeks, the Sunday school teachers and children decided to try and double the amount. Last Sunday they announced that $100 had been raised to be donated to UNICEF.
